>Resolving a long-standing question, the guidance says new cryptocurrencies created from a fork of an existing blockchain should be treated as “an ordinary income equal to the fair market value of the new cryptocurrency when it is received.”

How do they plan to pull this off? Forks usually list at inflated values and shit the bed fairly quick. Why don't they require exchanges to provide you with a W2 of sorts for your trades? I guarantee 98% of the crypto community doesn't report shit over the complexity of their rules. If we were smart enough to figure this shit out we probably wouldn't be trading magic internet money in the first place. Guess I'll just finish my life out on international waters because I wanted to escape wagecucking by trading meme cubes.

It’s not about being smart enough it’s about being wealthy enough to circumvent this labyrinth with expensive accountants and tax attorneys. It is a war against anyone outside of the upper class. Legacy institutions and governments are on their death beds so they will seek to retain their power by taxing everything they can, hence the climate change meme and probably property too since those who already own tons of it can use depreciation to write off numerous taxes, shielding themselves. Countries which choose instead to embrace the Information Age will benefit economically from the enormous transfer of wealth that is beginning to unfold.

Why report anything? Seriously. It's anonymous. If you want to cash out, just fly to Korea or Russia.
