By buddy makes good money but he is uninsured. He broke his hand 2 months ago. He went to 3 different hospitals to discuss pricing. The last hospital agreed to 13k cash. So that's where he went. He had surgery and stayed for 2 days. And they gave him antibiotics.

Not bad really.

That's where we are at now. Fuck this dystopian country.

I make 60k a year as a single male and the cheapest plan available is $300 a month with a 9k annual deductible. Fuck that shit.

anyways, back to the bill. most people will tell you to negotiate, which you can easily do and get them to drop the total about 50%....but if you want to handle this the true biznessman way, just ignore the letters until they send your debt to a collection agency. once you get contacted by the debt collector, ask them to verify the debt. they are legally obligated to prove that the debt is something you owe in order to continue to pursue it. since it's medical debt, and your medical records are protected by HIPPA, they won't be able to verify the debt and will have to clear it from your name. never sigh anything acknowleding the debt or your time in the hospital, and you'll be okay.

I've had to wait six months for an urgent referral that was causing me to lose vision in one of my eyes. That's completely unheard of outside the US. The only difference between the U.S. and some other counties is that you have to take the initiative to sign up for health insurance and pay it like any other bill versus having it paid for via taxes from the government.
