price targets don't matter
most of the pedestrian level "analysis" that you see as a retail investor is just some intern kid filling out a template.
the people who have real, proprietary high level information aren't tossing it out to retail investors for peanuts

think of information as a tiered structure, because that's what it is. brokerage price targets are based on low tier information.

mostly, we don't
the people who do high-activity options trading tend to pass through the threads with an average (median) lifespan of 3 weeks. there will usually be a 2-4 day "king of the world" timeframe where they think they cracked the free money code and get really enthusiastic

>>15770115
if it was an easy consistent way to make money in any market conditions, why would people sell the calls at those (hypothetical) prices?

who is "they"? are "they" the buyer or seller of the option(s), or are "they" just a hypothetical counter-party?
what about our side of the trade, and our IV calculation? if the market is "wrong" about IV (forward-looking?), then of course we might want to find a good position to take advantage of that
my response to the other poster was to try and give some ideas about why a hypothetical options strategy might not be "free money". The answer is still going to be something like "premium accounts for most likely future price movements, especially when integrated forward into a repeating strategy"

good. once the fucking zoomers and neozoomers stop using them in highschools, the stink of scandal can start to wash off.

JUUL is EVERYWHERE
The way these anti-vapers talk about it is starting to make me bullish.

Example: CNBC guys saying kids don't even say vape, they say "juul". They're sneaking to the bathroom to juul, let me hit your juul, I really want to Juul right now.

They're public enemy number one, and because of that they're on the tips of everyone's tongues.

Altria certainly overpaid, but when they pass regulations and all the competitors in the e-cig category are struggling, Juul may be the best positioned to survive. The same with Cronos group, once they get to the bottom of this, they'll make sure the little guys who can't afford to grow and manufacture at scale without getting pesticide contaminants into their products are regulated out of existence.

I don't think it's bottomed yet, it may even be a dark 1-2 years. Shit, that might mean I should wait for a market downturn event like a recession before buying?

oh so since CNBC said it... it must be true... got it!

what all these non vape retards don't understand is that people that vape don't even use juul...

only people that are out of touch think of juul because they have no clue that there are full on vape stores that carry every other product besides juul....

MO is going to $30.....

sure it'll bounce here and there but for now it has bad news surrounding it.. let it fucking sink before buying it.. you aren't going to catch a fucking $75billion market cap you fucking dweeb!!!!

I appreciate the input but not the accusations. I'm not trying to pump it, I want it to fall. I just want to discuss it with /smg/

I'm not the type of guy to come in here and tell everyone to buy such and such. I know, CNBC is especially suspicious. They're fudding it hard and trying to grandstand on it.

MO at 30 seems unlikely, but I might consider buying puts before earnings. The vape scare has to be cutting into this quarter's profits, right?

>MO was $66 ten months ago
The stock market is a terrifying bitch.

I'm technically going to be "buying" shares very soon when the divvies DRiP, but I don't recommend anyone else invest here.

> only people that are out of touch think of juul because they have no clue that there are full on vape stores that carry every other product besides juul....
THOSE are the kinds of shit that will be legislated into nonexistance. Does ATF let any jackass sell the cigarettes he rolled himself? If it does, that's insane. And allowing any jackass with a vape shop to sell his homemade shit is just as insane.

This too. Not as many fatties for me tho, at least not compared to the more niche apps. You ever try a BDSM app? Comprised almost entirely of fat chicks, women LARPing as findoms to try to take money from men, and faggots. Fairly disappointing. What's worse is these fat chicks have a distinct lack of character, not only displaying it from their sloth and gluttony, but STILL have these high standards. Like if you want to take one to the gym with you or for a run or something they're 100% against it. And if you're interested in something, and they're not 100% on board, "hard limit". It's as if, to them, I'm only there for their pleasure and they contribute nothing. Entitled AF. How I managed a half decent one after sifting through trash astounds me to this day.

It's impossible to time the bottom carefully. Every stock has a story. Some are just down on their luck. Back in year 2005, there was a ecig company in China that attained 1 Billion Yuan (120M USD using exchange rate back then) sales revenue in just 10 months time. It was the time when average monthly salary of people living in Chinese cities were only 1500 Yuan (200 USD). However, Chinese government claim their products are not scientific and unsafe, then they quickly driven them out of the country using financial measures.
Nowadays, people read what happened back then as the Chinese government's determination to protect their tobacco revenue, and thus even in the current year when ecig have been globally acknowledged, there are still barely anyone who are interested in retail of ecig in China.

I can bail with an about $600 loss on my put options OR hold for now. Should it go down (which I believe may happen before expiry) then a decent chunk is recovered with profit.

Questions for anons who buy calls and puts. Asking as I'd like to improve how I handle options.
1. Do you mainly purchase calls or puts?
2. How far out do you buy options?

3. How soon do you generally close out your option OR do you let it expire?

Ecig are not exactly illegal in China but if you become big then the government could use different tricks to make you disappear from the market
As for weed, from my memory most cannabis plantation in China are done in the name of industrial hemp. And then a few of them are in the name of medical purpose research.
And I am pretty sure there are some products, although I cannot recall any right off my mind, that are illegal in China but they still produce them and sold them to other countries.

Most protests are scheduled to occurs in the afternoon so nothing major in the morning
Only a few conflicts have occurred in the morning, including dozens being arrested for trying to release some balloon.
Military presence of China in Hong Kong are usually not visible and it's still like this in the city for now.
Yesterday the police claimed there were some "core rioters" trying to commit different acts like killing police, burning or starting explosion in mall and metro station, and recruit people with suicide tendency to commit terroristic acts. However people found out the information police posted is linked to a Mandarin group, aka not the language used by people in HK. It is unclear what police might try to do in the name of these so tension are high. Dozens of malls and metro station have already been closed to avoid being affected.

Doesn't surprise me as options seem to heavily affect stock prices. Which in my opinion blows. Should the stock market ban options, a bunch of stocks would likely settle near more accurate prices. Ban algo's and suddenly prices are gonna get hit real hard probably. It's a bunch of guesses but it's what I believe would happen if options and algo's were removed.

Question: I have several put options expiring in a few weeks to half a year out. Currently down about $600 on them (total cost about $5500). Reduced my loss by buying a call and closing it at a higher price. In your honest opinion do you think I should close them at a $600 loss or hold considering Trump's tweets affect the price and should a recession occur in a few months time these options will likely be in the positive.

Don't take it so personally, this is just a small wager on Xi's savagery and lack of humanity.

Did you notice Large Specs were short from Sept 11-23? That's much more significant to me, I wonder what happened and what changed their minds.

Everyone's pretty flat on the S&P chart, but the HUGE variation is on the Vix futures. Large specs are shorting the FUCK out of the vix, and smalls are way out on the other edge. This is much more concerning for my short position than the S&P COT.

Large specs aren't betting much on a rally, but they're betting HARD against a panic-sell.
