I was a smart cookie growing up. got into drugs and had a similar reaction. was a bit blackpilled for a while until I realised that just because everything I was taught and had been training for was bullshit didn't mean I had to give up. now I want a homestead with some veggie fields and a forest. can't believe I ever thought life in a city / in clownworld would ever work out. You may have a late start in the race, but so do a lot of other people. Run this thing at your own pace, blinders on, eyes forward. It's not going to be easy. It's never easy. But by making some good decisions now, it will at least be meaningful. One benefit of being older is that, whether you know it or not, you have a better idea of what you want out of life than when you were younger.

I utterly wasted my twenties, started to get shit together at thirty. I think about the wasted years sometimes like you do. But I'm building the life I want to live; slowly but surely, one step at a time.
