Sup /biz/raelis.

I recently discovered one of my college friends and coworkers (who started at the company a few years before me) got a HUGE sign-on stock grant (~150k usd).

Since then, the stock price has about tripled (I only joined the company this year). He let slip to me that he has a 600k net worth right now, and is only 24 years old.

For some reason when he told me that, I have constantly thought about it (my stock grant was waaaay lower)... The dude is younger than me, in a lower position than me technically, but has a net worth like 6x mine. I know I shouldn't care, but for some reason I do. Anyone else ever deal with this?

Dis the company IPO after he joined? That could be the reason, cause stocks for companies that don't go public are worth nothing.

imagine receiving over 5k stock of google in 2011 at the age of 22. they were handing it out like candy back then. i've heard so many stories of ex amazon employees that sold upwards of 10k stock they had acquired over 10 years when it was only worth 5$ a share. many of them are OK with it and still wage slaving away. such is life

you know that people commonly exaggerate or lie about such things to get in your head? sounds like it's working

he's not exaggerating though, I confirmed with mutual friends who've seen his work benefits account that he actually has that much

How is that any different from being jealous of someone who invested in buttcoin 3 years ago?

Everyone deals with this...even Billionaires it's called an anti portfolio...man I should have done x

End of the day are you better off?
Then what decision did he make better than you?

If you feeling jealous it's just some insecurity, do a therapy technique like EMDR on that feeling and the logic causing the feeling will be revealed.
