I'm probably going to get blasted for this post but.. Why is the owner of a business entitled to the vast majority of the profits?

Hear me out: Let me bring up an example. I used to work at this pizza place which did very, very well. I know it did very well because I've worked at three other pizza places within the same locality and this pizza place was BY FAR the most profitable.

The owner was almost always onsite but it was basically nothing but minor supervision. He spent most of the day chain-smoking at his desk while watching Youtube videos while we busted our asses in the kitchen. Then, near the end of the day, he'd drive off in his BMW and leave us to close shop. Why is this guy entitled to most of the money? He barely worked at all.

Of course he was responsible for maintenance and supply costs but even then, he could play around with those at the expense of his employees' well-being and/or ability to do their job to a satisfying degree ie: working equipment that isn't falling apart. The employees in this case wouldn't be able to do much unless it was a health hazard or such. They could always quit, but there will always be another desperate chump ready to take his job.

Does the owner have the right to most of the profits because he laid down the initial costs? Isn't it better for the economy as a whole if more people have more purchasing power instead of one guy just sitting on a giant pile of money?

I'm not trying to be a smug POS and I'm not hiding the fact that I'm brainlet when it comes to economics. I just want someone to explain to me how this stuff makes sense.

>> No.15590474

The owner owns the capital (machines, shop) and receives profits from the capital which is used for the production (plus an extra profit which appears in non perfectly-competitive situations).

>he could play around with those at the expense of his employees' well-being and/or ability to do their job to a satisfying degree ie: working equipment that isn't falling apart.

ideally the employer faces competition too on the labor market so he can't be a total dick
But this is one of the reasons for regulations (creating barriers to entry are the other ones)

>instead of one guy just sitting on a giant pile of money?

This is a common misconception, what do you think he makes with his money

Go build a business study the market get the funding, permits, spend years going through the red tape, talking to contractors to make the building, get everything up to code, make sure your taxes are set up right, do interviews and hire people. Then give the people you hired all of your profit because they have as much of a stake in it as you and when you go to bed that night you will have your answer. I have people tell me same shit, “oh you just sit there while employees work for you” here is thing. Where the fuck were you when I had to work over 10hours a day can’t sleep, worried about bills while trying to balance out my family time ? You want to know why? Because capital investment in humans is by far the worst thing you can do. Take a relationship for example. You bust your ass off to make this roastie happy, you spend money on her, time, and in 5 years she says “yeah i dont think this will work out”...? So you literally spent all that time/money that you couldve used for yourself and you get very little in return. Thats why. A smart person understands this and wont go out of his way to pay someone more than they would get somewhere else.

Also, all capital is risk. I was buying a car last year, I weighed options not just on appearance, but treated it as a speculative asset - certain models and makes depreciate faster than others. If you analyze your life like this you will find that amassing money is very easy.

Because there would be literally no point in owning a business if they weren't. Reducing the profit margins means increasing the risk the business will lose money. If businesses become too risk averse they will either cut expenses (ie jobs), move to another country with lower taxes or cheaper labor, or just shut down entirely. Reducing profits reduces incentive for entrepreneurship.

Because a business is just an organization, and one that the owner created or assumed the rights to its creation. That person sets the "price" because it's theirs. You have every right to accept or refuse that price. Business owners make so much because they 1. Take a huge risk in being the founder of said business 2. Usually have more vision than the complacent people who make up their workforce.

It's a lot easier to fill and application and get put in some routine role than it is to have a profitable idea, business model, and then work hard to put it all together. You're missing the forest for the trees.

This viewpoint comes from people who think a basic job is a means to actually support yourself full time. The business owner does not expect you to be able to start a family, own a house, etc, when you work at his pizza place. When you own a pizza place, you can do those things; he is simply providing basic entry level jobs for you to gain experience.

So you know how to work in a pizza place; why don't you save your money and open your own pizza place? Instead of getting a car note or blowing your pizza job money on dumb stuff, save it and become the pizza place owner.
