Contemplate what Catholics refer to as the "occasion of sin".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occasion_of_sin

In short, here is the idea...

... there are certain actions or circumstances that allow us to fall into bad situations. For example:
> going to a womans apartment alone if you are married
> being around a lot of cash if you are a thief
> being around booze if you are an alcoholic.

Occasions of sin are not sin themselves; but they are a stepping stone to it.

The trick is to know what circumstances trigger your bad behavior, and learning how to avoid these situations so you don't have the opportunity for them to get out of hand.

In your case, I think the place to start is NEVER drinking. EVER. Rather than to trigger an addiction that will be hard to manage, you're better off avoiding it before it starts.

People barely ever truly change their bad habits through their life, especially later on, you're in your mid 20's, if you dont take action immediately you'll be stuck for the rest of your life, along with your friends and family who will enable you to continue drinking, same goes for everything else, sugar, porn, weed, any drugs - people who develop a habit are unlikely to change as its deep rooted. You know "what the fuck should you do"
Either do it or dont, its up to you, no one here cares and please stop seeking for external validation online as if there's some holy grail and a magic trick that will open up your eyes, its really that simple - quit cold turkey or have fun being that 40 year old that still thinks drinking every few days is cool while he works a construction job, getting fired every few months because he cant get his alcoholism under control. Chances are you'll end up like your dad - use this negative post as your motivation for starters

Get out of the environment is a great way, change of faces is usually the best step. alcohol is too rough on your body. Do psychadelics while you're trying to stay away from booze and you can have fun without dependence or addiction and learn something about yourself

Realize that it's a really shitty habit, and only leads to shittier habits.

My Dad (was) and my friend's Dads are alcoholics and I've seen it take years off their lives.

If my Dad had stopped drinking he would've lived to see his grandchildren.

So do whatever you want dude, it's your life.

this. im watching my brother die from it slowly. hes 37 and shits himself on a regular basis, has no appetite for food any more, used to be naturally very strong and is weak as shit now and becoming very skinny. hes hearing voices.

youd think that when you have no bowel control and you drink so much that youre hallucinating that you hear voices that you'd try to slow down but its like he doesn't care.

I put away 12-14 units a night all thru my 20s. Eventually I just started drinking less. Now I'm at like 6-8 and try to take a night or two off every week. I watched my dad drink himself to death at 63. It all went downhill fast for him in a couple of years once he started day drinking. I'd consider stopping all together but I just dont know what to do with myself. Sobriety is boring as shit. Good luck fren

Put a few rules into place that you NEVER break.

For me:
> no liquor
> no more than 4 drinks in one day
> no drinking for more than 3 days in a row
> If I feel hungover in the morning I have to do 20 minutes of cardio

If I always follow those rules I stay out of trouble

start a very serious lifting routine, gains and alcoholism are mutually exclusive, you will look better, feel better, have more confidence, massively increase libido, and you will stop the premature aging process that you are currently inflicting on your one and only body

>If I always follow those rules I stay out of trouble
So, do you always follow the rules?
Attempting to control my drinking with "rules" didn't work for me. Because I couldn't stick to my own rules, and even when I did I was miserable. But often I just said "too late now, I'll get drunk like I want to this time and follow the rules tomorrow."

So I got help and haven't had a drink in six and a half years.

Let me tell you, it's so much easier this way. No more bargaining with myself, no more making promises to myself that I won't keep, no more guilt and shame, no more lying to myself.

Anon there's an easier way to live.
