They're worth paying attention to, even if you're not "listening" to them.

Every time cramer says we ARE oversold/undersold, he's turned out to be right. He pays for some indicator he calls an S&P oscillator, that has never* been wrong.

But sometimes he's totally, absolutely, 100% wrong. Which is how I lost so much money on CGC. Though maybe that'll pan out well one day. KSS ended up nicely, though it took longer than I had hoped. However, that did not involve him saying the market was oversold, only that he "thought" KSS had bottomed.

How do puts work?

I understand calls, but puts just dont make sense.

On robinhood for a sell call I need to own stock. I pick the strike price and premium which may or may not be bought. The buyer can exercise the call whenever said buyer desires so long as its within timeline for option.

Puts dont make sense. Does the buyer or seller need to own shares when making the option?

So you don't understand calls. Nobody actually needs to own stocks to write a call, they just have to have a high options level margin account with a decent broker. But with puts the writer is promising to buy the stock, the buyer could hypothetically own the stock and sell his own stock but usually neither owns the stock, it is simply purchased and resold at the last minute to complete the contract.

If you write a put you have to have enough cash to buy the stocks at the strike - and this gets locked up until expiry. To buy a put you simply buy it and if you actually hold to the expiry RH unloads it at the end of the day it expires to someone who'll actually do the buying and selling of the underlying stocks and gives you the cash, unless you hold the shares and you direct them to simply sell the shares you have.

I bought SNSS and TEVA because you guys shilled it but all of my attention has been given to crypto...didnt expect to have access to these funds desu. When shit went legal there was a complete glut of weed and every 20 something with 5k in savings and a weed habit started their own dispensary. This is why CGC is the right call. They have brands they're developing with Snoop Dogg, Martha Stuart and Seth Rogan. Along with that they're making CBD dog food and other shit and it's CGC branded. Along with that they have the Constellations brand distribution network for whenever we're able to legalize here in the US, plus if that happens anytime soon the Acreage Holdings deal is going to give them massive US production capabilities. Hey laddies, been waging hard recently and haven't been around much, but wanted to share my thoughts on upcoming earnings. Let me know if you agree/disagree:

-ACB: had a little bump recently since it sold off some assets, but I still think pot stonks aren't quite ready for prime time. Don't expect EPS to be positive and I expect in-line at best, but probably a miss. No position.
-KR: this one's had a nice run over the past month. I'm long this stock and I'm long going into earnings. PT of $28-$28.50.
-AVGO: really strong stock that hasn't seemed too hurt by tariffs/trade war stuff, I assume due to upcoming 5G rollouts. I expect a beat and possibly a guidance raise. No position but I'm considering maybe getting an ITM call spread with a month or two from now exp (especially if the stock dips before earnings and premiums come down)
ORCL: tough call here. Kind of a legacy co like IBM and still very much embedded in many many large corporations around the world but aren't all that sexy. Pretty neutral on this and no position. If I had to guess I'd say in-line all around.

Not sure what the reason is, but dividend funds are fucking on fire this week. My SPYD, SPHD, and DIV are up big even intraday when the broader market is down. I can only figure that a few big holdings, like AT&T, are driving it up. Something also tells me that a flight from bond-yield hungry fags could be injecting big money into these equity yielding ETFs. DIV in particular has been such a huge piece of shit for me this whole year but the last week or so it's just up and up.

I was already deep value it's been a fantastic couple of weeks for me

you can be proactive, reactive, passive, or a blend of these activity levels. Do not be reactive in the wrong way (buy high sell low). find value before the market does or invest in a way that isn't blindsided by shifts.
I have been clear and extremely repetitive for the past several months in my suggestions to secure solid revenue streams and look for realizable yields in order to successfully navigate the crab market.
I think some of our posters were already on the same wavelength, and many more were pursuing altogether different investing paradigms, so /smg/ in general has not been hurt too badly by this specific market rotation that has the media people so worried.
If you've been snibbed, hopefully you're holding equities that are stable and are paying you. If you are holding lots of equities with massive P/E that rely on debt just to keep gas in the tank, then something is very wrong with your strategy.

Also for my new idea: DB calls $9 Oct 18th or 25th. I'm pretty sure they've found their bottom and the whole market has been moving into traditional stocks lately. My large positions don’t seem to have that problem, and might be fine (Merck, Altria, Disney, Berkshire Hathaway, Viacom) except for possibly Nintendo

But I bought a smattering of small positions in other stocks at the exact wrong time, and am bleeding a thousand little cuts, some of which are finally bouncing back but very red, others just look like there’s more pain ahead (Barrick Gold, Nucor Steel, Salesforce, Twilio, Newrelic, weedstocks, JNJ, MasterCard) as well as a WAYYYY too large position in a speculative penny stock that really burned me.

you'll be fine as long as you're calm, patient, and diligent.
be more selective with your buys and your timings, and pad things out a little with some funds.

Jeez, that might actually be a non-insane spec, even if you don't catch a shooting star. The preferred stock has a 9.66% yield, but I believe Ben Graham said "Preferred stocks are for subhumans who hate profits," or something like that.

This is not exactly 100% amazing news.
China caving on a few points is a success in some parts but it could be a signal that the internal weakness people have been proclaiming is as bad as they say or worse. The market would likely go up if it thinks business as usual can resume.
China held a policy of no concession until now and it's hard to know if that means the internal tensions in the mainland are worse than it seems from the outside. Internal issues in China would tank the world economy which is already on the edge.
Overall if you're bullish hope this means the trade war will de-escalate and China can keep a firm grasp on the bug people, if you're bearish start shorting anything related to a cohesive china or go long on $WAR since the chinks will look to create an external enemy rather than allow internal decay.

Hang on guys, I think maybe us small brained smallspecs might've missed something... here's another HOT TAKE off the schwab news feed.

>China keeps penalties on US pork, onions, eases some others
3:03 AM ET, 09/11/2019 - Associated Press
BEIJING (AP) — China on Wednesday announced it will exempt American industrial grease and some other imports from tariff hikes in a trade war with Washington but kept in place penalties on basedbeans and other major U.S. exports ahead of negotiations next month.

>The move applies to raw materials for farmers and factories, suggesting Beijing wants to limit damage to its slowing economy from the fight with President Donald Trump over trade and technology.

>It adds to indications that both sides might be settling in for extended conflict even as they prepare for talks in Washington aimed at ending the dispute that threatens global economic growth.

>A list of 16 items including lubricants, fish meal for animal feed and some other chemicals will be exempt from penalties of up to 25% imposed in response to Trump's tariff hikes on Chinese products, the Ministry of Finance said. Punitive duties on basedbeans, the biggest U.S. export to China, and thousands of other items were left unchanged.

>"The exemption could be seen as a gesture of sincerity towards the U.S. ahead of negotiations in October but is probably more a means of supporting the economy," Iris Pang of ING said in a report.

>Word that talks are going ahead has helped calm jittery financial markets. But there has been no sign of progress.

>The two governments "are unlikely to reach a deal this year," said Pang.

Solar flares cause a geomagnetic storm that affects human psychology and behavior. Included in this is financial markets.
>Playing the Field: Geomagnetic Storms and the Stock Market, a study of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, notes the following: Unusually high levels of geomagnetic activity have a negative, statistically and economically significant effect on the following week’s stock returns for all US stock market indices. When a solar flare or CME happens, it can take up to 2 days to impact the earth. Therefore, two days after a large solar flare we should see a drop in the stock market values for that day. From: http://time-price-research-astrofin.blogspot.com/p/solar-activity-markets.html?m=1 since I'm using data collected from points on earth rather than the sun, the effect of heightened solar activity occurs on the day of the activity.

Personally, I think the most remarkable synchronicity about this whole spiel is the fact that a solar storm is called a CME, Coronal Mass Ejection, and that also stands for Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Why the fuck are Roku calls up 33% when the stock is down 7%?

Does anyone know why WKHS always dips first thing in the morning and then corrects back after the dip? I'm not complaining, I just keep buying but I was hoping there would be a logical explanation.

>> No.15556105

Wasn't going to do this but I decided to roll the dice. Bought an ACB put spread ($6/$5, 9/20 exp) and then bought 10 shares of the stock. My game plan is I expect earnings to miss and stock to dip, I'll sell my put, and then hold the stock/average down until it recovers. If it goes the other way, at least I've offset my put risk by holding shares.

logic and after hours dictated it was gonna crash and burn. At least for now it did not. Shit like this is why I'm considering going long on Ford if it goes down more. Frequently when people think ITS HAPPENING the exact opposite does. Look at GE and DB recently too.
