Here is a graphical example of this scheme.
Notice how July - September has abnormal growth but low volume? That's usually the best time to buy stocks. This is when the players start pumping money into the stock by buying up a lot of shares, creating the illusion of growth.
Notice how some days show high growth and immediate decline.
By October it has a nice record of growth and looks promising, so they promote it to people like you. Growth happens because people buy and when it hits a target price (here is .44-.50) the players sell, pulling lots of money out and decreasing the value. Panic sets in and people sell, soon a return to normacy.
