Isn't there the risk you lose money considering it can end up higher than strike price but lower than premium paid?

>> No.15503417

CONVO FROM LAST THREAD

>>15503376
No, I just took a peek at the call page to see what he was referencing when he said calls for prices below the current price and noticed all calls are shown as worth $0.01

>>15503323
You can buy calls for below the current stock price if you're looking to buy the underlying stock and sell for profit, or if you think it'll go up further to trade the option, or if you're uncertain it will continue to go up buying a call below the current share price helps ensure your call stays in the money and doesn't expire worthless.

What's your level of certainty, biz?

>> No.15503434

>>15503416
If the underlying stock value rises beyond the strike price the premium for the option always goes up, because it means who ever holds the call has the right to buy company X for $3.00 (Example) and immediately sell it for ($5.00), a portion or most of the profit they would earn from this guaranteed profit is chewed into by people selling options (me) who would be foolish to not charge more for such a valuable right.

>> No.15503496

>>15503434
I mean:
>Current price: $5.50
>Strike price: $5.00
>Premium: $0.60
>Stock price drops, it's now: $5.25

Wouldn't that be a loss for you?

>> No.15503525

>>15503496
If you bought the option for a premium of $0.60 when the stock was $5.50, and then the stock dropped to $5.00, the premium for the option would also drop, so yes, you would suffer a loss. This is why I don't generally buy calls on companies I feel are at the top of a run, A.K.A "buy low sell high". An example of a company in this situation is LCI, I made a stupid amount of money trading calls on LCI the past two weeks, and I believe in the company's ability to grow long term, but because options can expire worthless (you lose everything invested) I wouldn't personally buy LCI because I believe it's within reason to expect a short term draw back in the near future.

>> No.15503540

>>15503525
A real example of why I buy options for a month or two out is OLLI, I bought calls on OLLI before a true bottom was found, so for a week I was down about 30% on the option, but it eventually found a bottom and is currently rebounded so I am in the green again.

September 9/20 Sell Call

In that case do you exercise the buy call or is there a faster quicker way? I know with sell calls I can buy my call back idk if the reverse has something similiar.

I've started a dividend-oriented long portfolio. Ideally, 40 years from now when I hit 65 I will have a 'passive income' so they say. I've hand picked a number of monthly dividend stocks that have a consistent yield of 3-5 per cent, show no signs of stopping their dividend payouts, and have have had a least several years of payouts. Now, the short game obviously isn't where this strategy is at, but I see the great potential for compounding opportunities, especially if I start signing up for DRIPs. The potential is very real. I let it sit for 40 years, averaging in each month with regular cash deposits to keep the risk relatively low while still investing it. I've run some quick calculations. An average of $300/month invested in reliable stocks that are expected to last for the next 40 years could result in just over $1,000,000, but this is with an expected annual return of 6-7% which is quite conservative.

Thoughts?

Berkshire Hathaway doesn't pay a dividend. Instead, they invest their money opportunistically, buying back shares when they think it is undervalued, and building cash reserves for the large moves only companies like that can pull off. Demanding that you be paid a dividend is like insisting you are a better investor than Buffett.

Not that I disagree with you, I think it's a good idea in principle, and have been changing my direction towards dividend stocks. But there's other sides to the story, and I'm not going to sell BRK.B just because Warren is keeping cash on the books instead of handing it to me.

I do think he blew it on KHC though... but it can be salvaged in the coming decades.

I take my values and learning from Kevin O'Leary. I get it. There's more reward in a stock that may use what would otherwise be paid dividends into something like R&D or expanding their marketing, but at the end of the day, I'm the guy risking his money and I'm the one that needs to know this isn't going to go to shit when it comes time for some tough calls. At least with dividends there's opportunity to reinvest and compound, growing my portfolio with what I could consider long safe buys. I just don't see any value in non-dividends as of right now, just because of the risk. It's really just speculation to me with greater risk, little safeguards and what I would think is little pay off for a guy like me, just a regular layman dude looking to grow his own retirement plan.

>> No.15507243

The city council in the city of Busan and the city of Seoul in South Korea both passed a new motion that identified 284 Japanese companies as "war crime companies", including e.g. Mitsubishi Heavy Industry. This mean public services and education organizations in the cities should avoid buying any products from these companies, and in Busan's case, if they have brought products made by those companies, then a sticker saying "this is a product of a war crime company" should be posted on those products, in order to promote correct understanding on history among students in schools.
Also, the city of Busan have also passed a new law that allow citizens setting up historical memorial on the city's street, thus legalizing comfort women statue that some citizen groups have always trying to erect in front of Japanese embassies in Korea.
