Tor nodes are not centralized they just lack proper incentivization to spread adoption.
With sentinel you can hop through as many nodes as you want thanks to the relay net if even one relay node is honest nobody will be able to discover which IP requested the data.
By bringing incentivized nodes sent will have a huge pool of relay nodes.
now people hosting Tor nodes can host a sentinel node in parallel and get payed for it.

Sentinel also has a second type of exit nodes that funnel the day into Tor to offer additional safety so sentinel can act as a layer 2 solution for Tor.
