It is tho, well maybe not capitalism but capital itself. As long as there's heat in the universe there will be capital, as long as there's capital capitalism will be a mode of production too efficient to ignore, as long as there are 8 billion+ vestigal organs of capital swarming on this rock efficiency and personal convenience will be prioritized over group wellfare, there is no "us", there is no future, there is only this diabolical machine of capital until the end of time. Whiggish views of history were wrong because they were predicated on christian-apologetic notions of humanistic ends of history within man's time on this planet, there is no end just the Mappō.

chaos -> order -> chaos (ad. infinitum)
is the "logic" of the universe

Capitalism is one form of order (of course not perfect order). Capitalist countries seem to send fewer people to concentration camps (Not that I question Xi's wisdom, I'm sure they're learning good things in those camps). But of course, there's flaws as well, and I don't want to spend an evening debating which is more oppressive to the individual with a commie.

>>15424564
You really should show your work... And you should be starting from the same base point EVERY inversion. If "inversion bonds" account is already worth more going into into inversion, well then yeah that's gonna win.

>If "inversion bonds" account is already worth more going into into inversion, well then yeah that's gonna win.
I figured it'd be good to have the long run return from this strategy. And it does show that inversion isn't always the clear winner due to the false positive in the 60s.

But perhaps the biggest issue is that it'd be impossible to calculate the capital gains losses from using this strategy if I started at the same basis point every time, which actually hurts the inversion method and was why it dipped so much in the 60s.

are REITs a good buy in this world of negative rates?

I was thinking down the road (debt free and such) I would buy them for my non-retirement account and use them for passive income

I'd also wait for a crash or a time when they're on sale but am I fucked up on this one or?

>every other poster thinks a stock market crash is imminent
>yield curve is all over my podcasts this past year

This feels very odd to me. It’s the type of thing that makes me think we’re not in for a bear market anytime soon, but then again, we can talk ourselves in to a recession or a market selloff, and Germany has already begun its economic contraction.

I want to be contrarian bullish but this just seems so abnormal to me. Was it ever like this in the past?

Hell, just this last session, stocks gold and oil were all green?

If it were just technical analysis junk, I'd be pretty bullish for the next few months and fairly confident we'd see SPX 3200.

The trade war is the real fly in the ointment, since it keeps escalating. I'm fully expecting China to announce retaliatory tariffs Friday just before the open, and for Trump to tweet out something in response (like the tariffs planned for Oct 1st will now go into effect next Friday, or something like that). Algos will flip their shit and we'll crab our way down to the low 2800s-mid 2700s again, followed by crabbing back up over the next week, followed by more escalation. Maybe Trump will blink, maybe not. We've almost completely recovered from last Friday's scare, so I suspect Trump sees that and feels emboldened.

The best bull case I see is things getting so bad over the next couple weeks that the Fed does a 50-100bps cut at the Sept meeting, which could get us up above SPX 3000 again.

your pic related is correct. It's unusual to have all this volatility and media talk before the big one even happens. Dot com crash was a more of a low steady early drop before it really fell apart. 2008 had normal correction style drop, normal post correction bounce, VIOLENT DROP again, bounce, and another death drop once more with feeling.

Skimming through S&P weekly chart going all the way back to the 70's, it seems there is a level that, once broken, means liquidate all longs and start shorting everything: 200 week simple moving average. If the S&P breaks below that line, there is a high probability of serious crash to follow. Incidentally, the 200 week is exactly where the 2018 drop found low support.

Fuck...

>Uh oh.

>Warren Buffett, known for being one of the world's most prescient investors, has kept quiet on whether U.S. equities are too expensive at a time when the global economy is slowing, Bloomberg reports. But he's reportedly hoarding a record $122 billion in cash at Berkshire Hathaway Inc., leading to some speculation that he sees a recession on the horizon, or at least is sending some sort of warning. The cash pile is more than half the value of Berkshire's $208 billion portfolio of public companies, and the only time that percentage has reportedly been higher since 1987 was in the years leading up to the 2008 financial crisis.

>Bloomberg also points out that Buffett's favorite gauge of the stock market, the market capitalization-to-GDP ratio, doesn't paint a pretty picture at the moment. The barometer, which measures the total value of the stock market as a percentage of GDP, was reportedly telling before the last two economic downturns. It shot up 146 percent at the peak of the dot-com bubble in 2000, and 137 percent just before the financial crisis in 2008. It reportedly hit 154 percent in 2017 and Bloomberg reports that it's almost certainly higher today since the U.S. stock market is up. If it wasn't clear already, the lower the ratio, the better.

>Just one more thing to keep an eye on. Read more at Bloomberg.

You can do the math but by holding his calls, if it keeps going up, ge effectively solf at $0.69. If he buys back his calls he might as well have sold at $0.64 ($0.81 - $0.36 + $0.19). Bad deal! Ehh Robinhood seems to automatically exercise a contract if its in the money even if the buyer wouldnt want to buy it eg strike price 0.50, premium 0.10, ending share price 0.51. A loss but apparently it'd get automatically called.

How high would we go on the indexes after a trade agreement announcement? I feel like an initial rise of around 5% but a possible crash to give it all back in the days after. In any case, we are closer by the day to that agreement being inked. Time frens, time is unstoppable and with it we have a deal.
