Does it matter if it isn't backed with anything? Regardless, you have cryptos like BTC and now doge that are actively developing as currencies and are being adopted, while developing their own services. BTC focuses on TOR, whereas Doge is focusing on legitimate trading. Its inflationary nature means it can be used as a stable currency once mining is complete in a year.

All "no value" currency only requires that everyone else has some confidence that everyone else will use it as if it had value. You could rip up pieces of paper and say it was a currency, but you would have to make people trust it.

In other words, the only thing left is confidence. If there were no confidence in the currency, then why are people trading back and forth with "real non valued currency" as if it were?

My arument stems from the fact that it isn't backed up by any tangible asset AND that most governments wouldn't allow a competing currency. I am worried about long term growth with BTC as more and more legislation is introduced to destroy it.

Ah, what setup do you use? I just bought dual 290x AMD gpus for my main rig at home. I always wondered what kind of mining it could do.

I'm just curious since we all know once we get new setups we want to push them.

I think long-run it's a good hold. I bought in July at $6.45 or so. Generally once I make over a 30% return I take some gains. Dividend is good as well but I was previously holding a large number of financials so I'm just re-adjusting some of my holdings.
