Anyway in regards to the questions about retirement, I have no intention to truly retire. My dad is a financial adviser and says many of his clients that retire to get out of work die very quickly. The clients that have plans/goals/hobbies to retire for have purpose.
My retirement fund is for my family when I die, and for myself if I desire to stop being a salaried minister.

Eh, protestants are weird about usury. While many boomers are against personal debt and follow Dave Ramsey, almost all Churches have some form of debt. An argument could be made that the problem of usury is within mosaic law and doesn't apply to modern Christians in the same way circumcision or restrictions on bacon are no longer followed.
The interesting thing about the passages forbidding usury are either in reference to charging brothers/community members interest or now is interpreted to mean predatory loaning. If we assume mosaic law has ended, then the natural conclusion is the fact that the sin currently would be the intention/heart condition behind loans. I don't issue loans and don't abuse money over those that don't have it. If we use a broader idea of usury as "anti-charity", or depleting a community of resources, I don't do that either. Profit is not a sin nor is it even usury, so browsing biz is not some immoral act. ROI =/= Interest.

>fighting against everything /biz/ is for ?

I usually do end up fighting you guys, (biz as a whole not necessarily smg) since so many tards think they have good ideas. Options/stock trading is perfectly fine, my dad was a swing trader for fun and mentions he wants to do that during retirement. The problem is when people start to speak about the greater financial/economic machine and mislead others. I see this happen here and I see it happen incredibly often at churches. People who were burned by debt throw out the whole system and insist on buying gold (etc). I hate to see members of my community fall into a hole because of misinformation.

interesting view, but a bit self-redeeming.

usury was always connected to the sin of greed, which our daily process of accumulating capital is definitely part of.
we always win money when someone loses some, since we don't create it ourselves.

"stealing" money from someone you don't know doesn't make the sin of theft go away.

you can't alway go according to dogma and say "that is sin according to some churches, but not to my church", and look at why it was considered sin by someone in the first place.

>usury was always connected to the sin of greed
There's a difference between cultural interpretation and the actual meaning.
>we always win money when someone loses some, since we don't create it ourselves
In the modern system, less so. Our growth isn't attached to land and linear resource access, it's based around technology and productivity. If someone sells to me, I have no idea if they're selling at a loss or a gain. I could sell to someone and they could end up selling at a loss/gain. I have no control over that.
Greed is ultimately a condition of the heart, Jesus didn't end the law but fulfilled it. Asserting that profit is theft is a rather interesting point of view, but I disagree. And my point about it being someone I don't know wasn't to justify it. I was referencing Deuteronomy 23:19-20

"Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest. You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the Lord your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess."

Many old laws are very specific. You can't take them out of context.

single day movements do nothing to prove a bull market, they are part of the greater crab structure
If we get another couple years like 2016-2017 where there is a constant uptrend, then you can talk about the bull

we all know that isn't going to happen
good month leads to bad month leads to good month
good days, bad days. markets sideways for a week, emotions all over the place. volatility up, volatility down
the crab sees it all, the crab rules over their fear and their greed. oscillating, scuttling, always the same

note that crabs have nearly 360 degree vision, and vision above them, but different areas in their visual field have different levels of accuracy

He's obviously a Protestant minister. Protestants don't generally object to usury. Stock investments aren't usury anyway. Also usury is a specific thing. According to Thomas Aquinas, usury is lending money or some consumeable good, and requiring the borrower to pay back the principal as well as pay for the use of the principal (the interest). Even under this definition, note that this doesn't prevent charging of interest in all circumstances. For instance, in a rental agreement where I lend you a boat, I require you to return the boat (the principal) plus make rental payments, which is to pay for the use of the boat. However, rental agreements are not usury, because a core part of this conception of usury is that the loan must be of something that is cosumed (which includes money according to Aquinas and general Catholic moral thought), and while the boat suffers depreciation to being rented, it is not lent out under the premise it will be consumed.

This doesn't really apply to /smg/ because we discuss primarily common stocks. Bonds would probably be considered usury under Thomas Aquinas' definition, but stocks certainly wouldn't. Stock is partial ownership of a company, and profits from stocks are either from to sale of that ownership or from dividend payouts, which, as owners, are our fair share of the company's earnings.

$REFR

Their business plan is to be a "royalty-collecting, dividend paying machine." Their operating costs are less than 5M and will not change because ALL the cost of testing, marketing, etc. of their technology is done by the licensees. Those licensees include the top glass makers in the world. When REFR has earnings THOSE WILL GO TO SHAREHOLDERS! I met Bob Saxe in 1992 and knew if this ever got adopted in auto glass that revenues would be through the roof. I may have mentioned that my grandfather started the auto glass industry early last century at his company Libbey-Owens.

So traders, shorts thank you, thank you for the liquidity because NONE of us long term shareholders are going to sell just when they are on the cusp of profitability! In fact we've been buying steadily as last year no one had heard of SPD, much less REFR. Still buying, stock is going back to way back highs in 30s.

you can't double-sell on the same underlying

But the wealthiest usually want some exposure to venture capital and private equity.

I was reading recently about the shift towards taking/keeping the most profitable companies private. I'm starting to wonder if those participating in the regular stock market are going to get less than historical returns due to trends like that and trends like the decrease in dividend payouts.

So 4 years to stash 18k away. Easy as shit, Hell I'll prob over stuff it.
