Basically you have all these type A students obsessed with getting straight As/4.0. These people also want to take AP classes. Many of them struggle with AP classes, and get B-/B type grades. The school doesn't want them to feel bad, so they say a B in an AP class is actually a 4.0 and an A is a 5.0.

What gets me is it literally only exists to protect the student's ego. When they apply for college, the college sees they got a B in that class. Colleges also convert raw letter grades to their own internal scale. The whole "AP classes on a 5.0 scale" thing is literally a placebo mechanism to keep students feeling good about themselves.

I can tell. Let me tell you something about America's public school system.
See, America has a lot of spics and niggers. Spics and niggers are stupid. But we can't admit that, because thas raycis. So who do we blame when they do bad on tests? The schools. Now the people working in the schools, they see the clear difference in different students' aptitudes and more importantly willingness to do schoolwork, but they know if they try to tell the people they're under fire from that the students are stupid and lazy that nothing good will come from it. So they just dumb everything down, lower the standards. Someone who should've failed is now a B student because they use easier material and add grading curves. Now everyone is happy, and no one had to actually learn anything. There's no longer any way to distinguish actually intelligent children from the average just using these journalism friendly numbers like graduation rates and GPA, which is why most college admissions require ACT and/or SAT scores. You'll notice she wasn't bragging about those.
My high school class had 8 (eight) valedictorians, which was pretty much everyone with near perfect attendance who wasn't retarded.
