Eating is a physiological need, not a want or desire. Price tags on food are a necessity of the logistics of feeding tons of people.

People buy clothes because they want to (more or less legally they need to).

I'm not certain that this is true.

you should consider whether your barometer for "most stocks" is composed of tech and growth stocks. Or of ETFs and mutual funds that reinvest dividends for you.

I think if you checked out stocks outside of the meme stocks that you presumably hold, I think you would find that the average stock does, in fact, pay a dividend.
