Who can say where the money goes
Where the order flows, only time
And who can say if your portfolio grows
As your guru chose, only time

Who can say why your broker sighs
As your portfolio dies, only time
And who can say why your margin call cries
When your profitability dives, only time

If it's a government backed loan, it's dumb to even try to apply for one, unless you're actually in school, and then, you only get what's left over after the college is paid. So you're loaning 40k, to get 10k, but owe on all 40k, and the clock starts now. And you'd better know what the terms are if you drop out, or fail out.
Better to just take a gamble on a straight private loan, and risk all $40k. It's only your credit, income, and not getting sued for debt later on, and liens and garnishments, if you lose the bet.
That's if you think taking interest bearing debt out to gamble with is a good idea. I don't. But you do you.

An anon may get heavy into biz, and then rotate into /fit/ or /lit/, maybe /k/ /ck/ etc.

but we also had a recent crop of VERY retarded name/tripfigs who insisted on shilling memestocks, and really lowered the quality of the threads. Wouldn't surprise me if people lost interest with that shit going on.

>> No.15177442

I think a lot of zoomers don't have the attention span to really learn about the stock market, or hang around eclectic general threads like this one and sort of enjoy the culture

most of the new posters we get that come through here just want to post things like
-"what stock should I buy"
-ask us to spoonfeed them investing concepts that could be looked up on google or investopedia with a single click
-ask us to explain something about their brokers' interface

and then even if you spend the time to try and give a good reply or start a discussion with them, they just leave.
No one lurks and then joins the threads, the only discussions we ever have are the thread regulars...
It's just my opinion, I feel like a lot of the younger posters that we have come through cannot become part of the old general thread/forum culture. It's just foreign to them, it's too much for their attention span. They want quick little one sentence question/answer online interaction

I always end up feeling like an idiot because I write lone posts and I feel like people don't even read them, much less reply. so I don't come to the threads as much, and when I do I don't say much, because people will only read your posts and respond to them if they are two lines or less

crab market doesn't mean "the market doesn't move". if you've ever seen crabs, you know that they move a lot, but they have to scuttle side-to-side.
crab market means that the market scuttles back and forth (up and down) in a range

The point of a crab market is that people who take out time sensitive positions (directional long option plays, leveraged ETFs) can get banged up unless they time everything well. lotta people got snibbed in the past few days. some played it smart and got out alright

There is positives. Profit, AMRN's drug will bring this in by the assload. Big Pharma will not let that Profit just pass by. Canada approval process still on track. Bad way to think mate, you're going to lose your money. So many people in the last 10 years bet against the market and lost their shirts doing it. The Nasdaq 100 has been unrelenting in appreciation.

Nobody can get the bottom unless they are very lucky.

I think if someone can get within 10%-15% of the top or bottom, they are doing a very good job and there is money to be made in a long term hold.

If we do go into a crash, and not just a flash crash like 1987 or that 2010 flash crash, but an actual genuine market downturn, the bottom has the possibility of not arriving for 12 months.

Market peaked in 1929, bottomed in 1932.

Market peaked in 2000, bottomed in 2002.

Market peaked in Dec 2007, bottomed in March 2009.

I have a hunch that due to the mass adoption of algo trading/ETFs, that any downturn will be a lot faster in the modern day though. Just a hunch.

Just buy a vanguard SP500 with all of it. Bonds have shit yields and dont compound. Also stop living with the fear of some 'crash', economies recover. Buffet didnt run out and sell everything he had when the market crashed in 2008 or any other time, in fact he just purchased more and more. He literally never sells anything because he knows its all solid companies which can weather anything. An index does the same thing, you just get to be lazy and still get fantastic results.

1. It only took 5 years from 2008 for the entire market to recover, even if you just so happened to totally get it wrong (and you wont) you still get your money back. But that wont happen anyway because
2. There is literally no reason for a crash to occur, the world economy is slowing, not crashing, its still growing steadily
3. Literally nothing else beats just buying indexes and holding them, setting dividends to reinvest and putting more money in as you get it
4. NO ONE ON EARTH can time markets. You cant tell me tomorrows lotto numbers and you cant tell me if the market is going to go up down left or right. You're still better keeping your money in an index rather than it in a term deposit or bond with zero return due to non-existent interest rates

SP500 makes up 80% of the US stock market, which means it misses out only in mid/smol cap companies which return less than the other 80%. Case and point Total Market index has returned less over its entire history in comparison to the SP500.

In terms of bonds, there is no harm in taking some, the idea being if the market crashes and if you need money the bonds will keep paying out. But interest rates globally are dead, and all signs point to them getting worse not better. There is no reason to take them right now.

If you're paranoid schizophrenic you can take some gold as a back up. But there is really no need. You can diversify out by taking SP500 and another index tracking ETF somewhere else.

Also if you're not American then the SP500 might not be appropriate. Depends on where you live (if your index is better) because of taxes. Australians for example get taxed at 15% for US assets, but we get a rebate so we can invest without paying extra tax on American assets. Just something to keep an eye out for if you're doing foreign indexes.

>4. NO ONE ON EARTH can time markets. You cant tell me tomorrows lotto numbers and you cant tell me if the market is going to go up down left or right. You're still better keeping your money in an index rather than it in a term deposit or bond with zero return due to non-existent interest rates

Nobody can time markets, but we can get a good understanding when markets are historically expensive.

The only other time the market has been this expensive was in 2000.

What do people even see in AMD? Their CPU's single core performance is so bad and unstable that it can never be used by governments in massive super computers for experiments.

AMD does not have experts and technicians that go to companies under warranty and give them support.

Intels Single Core performance still is light years ahead of AMD even when they have sixty cores..

Intel has way more support for emulation and intel never abodnons legacy stuff while AMD abandons legacy code etc so some stuff from even a decade ago cannot work on AMD CPU.

The only thing I see going for it is being used in Gamer Builds for people with a budget but even then with its bad single core performance and not stability its still way better to go intel to have a stable gaming rig.

It doesn't matter. Intel is still better because they work with companies under warranty and provide support with code and custom stuff. You would have to be suicidal to go AMD only as a company.

Look at what happened to AMD after they released Athlon 64 in 2003... it killed Intel's "netburst" architecture CPUs in performance/watt, which is the major cost determining factor in multi-socket servers and they gained a lot of server share (went from single digits to 26% iirc). Stock price went from $5 in 2003 to >$40 by 2006.

They're doing it again with TSMC's great 7nm process which is more advanced than Intel's. Desktops and laptops sit at idle most of the time if they're even turned on, servers actually do work so energy efficiency is a huge consideration, and they're highly parallel so single core performance doesn't matter.

Even ARM can compete with Intel in server https://blog.cloudflare.com/arm-takes-wing/

And AMD may repeat what happened after Athlon 64 too.. Intel released Core 2 in 2006, destroyed Athlon 64 in single thread and performace/watt, in 2009 AMD stock went under $3.
