Assets in china are always at risk of being seized, with the biggest defense China's policy of wanting stability. Seizing assets is risky for your reputation. Just ask South Korea or Venezuela. This need for stability is the interesting part of the fight in HK. The LAST thing you would think they want is political instability in their primary financial hub at this time.

As with anything, it's always about correctly assessing risk, and being diversified. If you've got the stomach for it, there are probably Chinese assets available for sale cheap.
