Why is the american hiring process absolutely garbage? How the fuck can you even stomach sending out tens if not hundreds of applications?

I had exactly two interviews (direct talks with the technical manager and department manager) before landing a good job right out of school here in northern europe, hired on the spot at the second talk and asked to start immediately. Are these american dystopian horror stories just memes or what?

During the recession here companies started using it as an excuse to be more blatant about screwing over employees even if they weren't really affected. And then it never really went away

That's not even the bad part.

only plebs spam out their resume everywhere, that shit is not going to ever get read by a human so unless you have specific (IT certs, six sigma, etc) certs, formerly employed at a fortune 500, or an ivy league degree its just going to toss you into the "other" stack with the 10,000 other resumes.

get on linkedin, network, and talk to recruiters/hr directly if you want a job. Sure your first job you might have to go through an endless grind but after that its smooth sailing

Its leftist culture at its best.

I was so hungry I could barely think in one interview, had 2 weeks left before police could legally remove me from my apartment, and this bitch looked me dead in the eye to say, "you're intelligent, and would clearly do this job well. But I'm not going to hire you because I think you'd get bored."

So I went on to be homeless until I capitulated to military service like a slave.

Only amateurs follow the provided process. The ones that get the jobs are smart enough to circumvent the broken process and get a referral or stalk the hiring manager on Linkedin.

Wageslaving is wageslaving no matter where you are. Selling your life to a master for a pittance is no more tolerable in Europe than it is in America or any other (reasonably developed) country. Europeans lording the virtue of their system always cracks me up, like they honestly believe employers are honest and reward their subservience.

If you play this rigged game of climbing job ladders and impressing interviewers you'll be miserable. You're never gonna get to the top. Never. The only people who do are the people who have the connections and the people who have the connections don't have to go through the process.

Make it your own way. Buy for one and sell for two. That or go be a worthless NEET and play WoW Classic. This thread of wagies trying to one-up each other trying to prove that their existence is marginally less exploited than the other is seriously pathetic.

Interviewers will bill you for wasted time if they bring you in and find out you’ve just bullshitted on your CV/resume. I don’t think it’s too much of a bad idea, but it’s a slippery slope and will more likely than not end up being abused.

Pic related. Read it and weep.

Must be a northern europe thing, I live in Switzerland where supposedly there's like 3% unemployment and everyone's rich and wiping their ass with money, and over the last 2-3 months I've sent out about 50 applications to any position which is in my line of work, many are apprenticeship positions paying less than what my rent costs, and I've had exactly two interviews, first one didn't take, other one was like three weeks ago and I'm still waiting on feedback, if I'm ever to get any.

Its worse than you think.
I graduated college in 1991 (pre-internet) and if you wanted a job ANYWHERE you had to show up and physically fill out applications. Even for white collar jobs...Often times they wouldn't even give you an application unless someone 'inside' or trusted gave you their name or reference.
I got 'downsized' in 2008 at the height of the recession and I was shocked to see how bad things were applying for jobs.It was certainly a bad time to apply but you literally could only apply online and you went up against filter after filter with your resume to the point I gave up and started trading and never looked back.
My 2 sisters in law work in HR for two big pharma companies and they both told me they routinely get 5000 applications for every non-professional job (entry level, janitor, mail room, etc) and often get hundreds for their professional level jobs (PhD, scientist, etc)...they simply apply filter words to the electronic resume procedure and they usually weed out 90+% without even looking at them. And yes they both say they actively weed out white males by putting word filters like 'lacrosse' 'lettered' or known fraternities and putting plus accents on black colleges and fraternities and known gay groups. I asked them if its illegal and they say yeah but they're told from the top to do it so sue them.
I don't envy you kids looking for work today, and its a rather good environment otherwise too.

There's no way you are required to pay this. Businesses can't just go invoicing people for no reason, that's the government's job.

Really far be it from me to ever defend corporate culture but this specific instance seems uniquely vindictive and spiteful. I reckon the applicant was a total shitcunt during the interview. Lot of unprofessionalism all around, sadly the new norm now that women and minorities rule the corporate workplace like Stalin.

H1B visas. Businesses don't want to hire Americans, but by law they have to "try". So they interview hundreds of people with unrealistic requirements (10 years experience 40k/yr starting, stuff like that), and then when pajeets are the only ones that qualify, they hire pajeets.

I remember in class there was this girl about to graduate, complaining about her interview. She said that she thought it would just be to make sure she wasn't a "creepy psychopath", and was extremely angry that the interviewers asked her all sorts of technical questions. This girl was known to be particularly slutty/partygirl and I never knew her to pass a class with more than a B-.

The next time class met, she told people that she got the job.
