I do this.

I just get them good enough to pass warrant of fitness (New Zealand) and make sure they are self contained. It's not worth tearing the cunts apart and making them into a camper. Easier to just buy them off tourists in the fall/winter and sell them in spring/summer. They never go for less than $5k and I can get them as low as $500.

Making some luxury can is a fool's errand. I'll make ten times that amount by just churning through vans and doing the bare minimum.

My brother works on a ski resort in Colorado and since there's basically only resorts and mega homes out there, any of the workers who don't live in housing live in vans--even then some of the resort workers choose to live in vans.

They'll take any running van, rip the seats out, and put an air mattress in. Unless you had a masterplan to make yourself """"the"""" boutique camper van man, I don't really think there's a market for this.

I am a pretty good carpenter and have recently renovated a van in a good style, for myself. The key will be doing the bare minimum and not worrying about fancy plumbing systems and all that, but making the overall style right for today's IG crowd. A few days of work and a few $100 of timber will go a long way.
