I always think of 4 percent when I'm thinking about retirement targets and how much principle I really need. Why do you use 3 percent? Just because it's more conservative? I was actually running the numbers last night on this. I can live on 21k a year and be very comfy. 40k a year would be much more than enough and I'd be super comfy. At 4 percent, that's only 1 million in principle. As soon as my portfolio reaches 1 million, I'm cashing out.
