To build the infrastructure we have today. Now things are different imo, it's not about building infrastructure it's about incremental innovation.

No. I started my engineering degree at 23, finished in the 4 years and have been working for a year now.

I was working 3 jobs before, and starting to feel pretty shitty about the direction my life was going. Decided over a pint with a buddy of mine to start applying to engineering programs, nearly everyone in my immediate and extended family are engineers.
The future is looking a lot brighter now, great career prospects, getting married in a couple of months, both my fiance and I make great money, planning for kids.
Most important piece of advice I can give you if you do decide to pursue a degree is don't feel embarrassed by your age and find a group that spends a lot of time studying. It will rub off on you and motivate you to perform better.

My day to day is quite interesting, spending about half the day in the office and half on site. Business trips although few and far between are also a nice perk. I was in Banff a couple of months ago skiing and eating tasty steaks compliments of a supplier.

My usual routine for summer;
wake up around 10:30
drink some water and a cup of coffee
15 min work out routine, simple body weight training.
usually eat eggs as breakfast
watch some anime
play vidya games until afternoon
15 min workout at around 6~6:30
eat dinner
go out for a walk after 20:30, at least for half an hour. Just listen some music
Back at home, take a shower, do whatever I want. Then sleep.

I don't feel any lethargy, I'm not depressed, if anything I feel way better than I ever felt. I was depressed in high school, uni and at work. I took therapy, and concluded that I'm not made out to spend 12 hrs of my day for mr. shekelberg.

But you don't know what these guys' lives are like, and had you been born as them and they born as you, obviously the roles would simply be reversed and you'd be the one reading some guy telling you to motivate yourself while mom and dad are screaming at each other in the other room of a 1 bedroom apartment. You had good parents, they had shit parents, that's honestly the only difference between you and them.

Now me on the other hand, I was a neet, and a meth addict up until 23yrs old (currently 28). And to keep a long story short, ALL ON MY GOD DAMN OWN AND WITH NOBODIES HELP I figured it out. And not only did my actions change my life, it changed my entire families future. I showed my parents that no matter what shit hand I was dealt I WILL fucking succeed. This motivated them. They started making changes. Sure my dad had a couple of strokes, but he's got tiger blood, dudes still walking and talking. Mom got a job for the first time in TWENTY YEARS. Brother joined the navy and is top of his class. I proved it is possible to start with a bad hand and play it and win anyway. It took years of literal wage slavery and I am still nowhere close to where I want to be but I should be the one talking to these neets, I have the right to use the n word, you don't.

College gives you a fire under you, if you don't pass you fail out. It also gives you a structure, telling you exactly what you need to study.
Online courses can mitigate this quite a bit, if you can give yourself a fire you can do just as well. But that part is harder than it sounds. also without accreditation you'll usually be punished in the job market.

but to your point, either most colleges SUCK (so he has a point?) or they are given a lot of credit for really what is only pressure and structure.

>> No.15029982

It is an objective fact that most people's brains don't finish developing until well into your mid-twenties. So to think it's too late at 30 is preposterous.

What you have been fed in pop culture and social media is a steady stream of youth worship specifically designed to make you think it's too late to make something of yourself. It is a conscious effort to keep you mired in medocrity, content with wageslaving to fund an empty consumer existence. Contributing to that is a crabs-in-the-bucket mentality where people will universally deride you for making going back to school or picking up a new career not because they actually know any better, but because they are bitter and want to see you fail.

Do what you want to do with your life. Just don't fall into the wagie or NEET traps. Those are two sides of the same miserable coin.

>thinking grunts have the brains to do STEM
Most peple spend their GI bill on a random BA degree like business and fuck off. Hardly anyone from the Army suddenly become engineers or medical

Listen pal. He asked for advice. I provided actionable advice.

You just offer criticism. Worthless.

Also people go to the military because they can't into a BS STEM degree. I don't know where the "go to military and then become a genius engineer" meme came from.

I don't want a crayon-eating retard to waste his GI bill on a degree he can't finish.

Just get a BA in anything and combined with Vet status and a bachelors, you can easily get any civil service jobs such as police officer or firefighter.

This is real advice. Not giving dumb grunts false hope that he can magically become computer wizards or an engineer. LMAO

Also I know Engineering is hard because I fucking dropped out from the program and know plenty of others that did so as well. All of them including me did a shitton of studying and were all 2200+ SAT score (out of 2400) students. Yet we still sucked at engineering.

How do you then expect a random high school graduate retard that is going to the army (because he have nowhere else to go) to magically get a BS STEM degree?

Yeah but vets all just get a BA, or die trying to get a BS STEM degree. My point is that most vets simply don't have the brains to suddenly tackle a STEM program once they are out of the Armed Forces.

Maybe military folks have a huge chip on their shoulder but they have to admit that they went Army because they didn't have the brains to go to a good university and learn STEM. Don't give people in this board false hope that they can easily get a STEM degree after going to the military.

I graduated uni at 28. Did it part time. Worked part time and finished with no debt. Travelled all over E asia and then S E asia banging intelligent beautiful insects and saving a fortune. I invested everything in stocks and made even more money. I returned to Canada at 34 and started computer programming at a local college. I am average intellectually, however, my life experiences has led me to surround myself with quite a few smart guys who are going places. We got a start up in mind. Do not go for some bullshit. See if it has a co op program or learn a trade. You can not go wrong investing in yourself. Dont go because you do not know what to do. Go because you know what you want to do.
