I am a soon to be graduated English major who decided law school was a bad idea. Should I get an MBA?
Pic unrelated.

You will learn 0 in an MBA program but you may be able to network through your classmates and professors for a job. Hopefully you get into a decent program.

>>14958333

You need to be a people person and learn how to get what you want out of people without rubbing them the wrong way. Most c-level execs and senior ranking people in the corporate world do not have MBAs but they're people people who have soft skills and got lucky with timing.

None. My undergrad was free through the GI Bill.
I'm a vet by the way, if that helps someone break into the business world. I'm shit at math though

I can't. Trust me, I tried, I kept bombing my LSAT practice tests and the studying wasn't helping me as much as I was hoping. That's when I took a long hard look at what I wanted to do and realized law wasn't worth it and a terrible investment.

>> No.14958611

I’m a vet who’s gonna do an mba as well just for the memes. It is all about networking as shit, so just do the most expensive yellow ribbon mba you can and just try to meet people. Leverage you existing skills and network

That's good, I don't think there is much you can do with an English degree. Honestly you should get a law degree. Otherwise, engineering but if you don't like math or science probably not good.

My GI Bill is gone. It's used up. That's probably my biggest regret. I didn't know what I wanted to do until it was too late.
But I'd rather pay just grad school tuition than grad and undergrad both like most people

There is loads you can do with an English major. I didn't pick because "hurr durr I want to teach" or muh literature.
English majors excel in marketing, advertising, public relations and human resources. That's why I'm wondering if an MBA would be a good choice.

No one gives a shit about what your undergrad degree is in. The banks have special programs for vets. Apply to one of those if you went to a decent undergrad while you hit up fellow vets to see if they can help you.

I did a double in English Lit. (ex-Army OzFag). Went and worked at Pfizer as a sales rep (they had quite a few ex-military all the way up to VP) then fell into marketing. Moved to J&J and now run a division of a Jap company for Aus & NZ. I have a few MBA grads that work for me - never did anything more than my arts degree

Only if a company pays for it. Figure out what you want to do, get a job in a company, in their management fast track, and get paid to get an MBA.
MBA tuition is priced with the assumption that you're doing this. Paying out of pocket via loan, just to have one is incredibly dumb, unless you're in medicine or law.

When I considered doing an MBA I was told by everyone that MBAs are for people already in management. Having an MBA but no experience running a business was worthless and wouldn't get me a job, according to every person I asked. In fact they laughed at me.

My local university (Utah) is really highly ranked.
Are MBAs regional in the way law schools that aren't the top tier are?

An English major is great if you know what you want and how to get it. If you're unemployed with an English major it's your fault, not the degree.

if it's so great on its own then why are you asking 4chan whether you should go to law school or business school
just bite the bullet and take the lsat. law school is as much about networking as business school, and it'll give you practical knowledge in a relatively high-paying field while you're at it
t. majored in journalism, got into a T2 school with a full ride. my undergrad degree is on the same level of useless as yours and you're retarded if you think otherwise

also, because I feel compelled to respond to people who make shitty college major decisions: majoring in english, philosophy, journalism, history or communications is a meme unless you plan on a.) going the academic route (shelling out cash for ivy league grad school, not to mention getting in) or b.) going to law school (more reasonable).
your lack of experience in the job market with a completed bachelor's degree is obvious and I actually hope you get out there and try, just so you can learn what a dumb decision it was to major in english
