How the fuck does somebody even get a job?

>Apply for position
>Customise resume to job specifics
>Tailor write a cover letter
>Go through the job portal and do bs personality assessments
>Call the HR and ask for the managers email, or speak to them directly
>Still cant land interviews
>Or if i get an interview, i then get summarily rejected with impersonal emails.

What the fuck. Who made this so hard. Ive been unemployed all year and can barely given the opportunity to show anyone what I'm made of.
Someonehere is making the rules for a game I clearly dont know how to play. I cant even get a McJob at this point.

We don't have soldier worship either. We just say we do to keep the troops in line. Combat vets are viewed as damaged in corporate America. They are only good as security guards and police, which is why we have a police brutality issue. The boredom of working patrol is no match for the thrill of war, so they try to escalate toward violence.

After 3.5 month of back and forth I got rejected because "you're overqualified lmao".
Few days ago I got an offer at an other place. Send a confirmation email to notify them of my acceptation. Silence afterwards.
Are they just trolling or do they play hard to get?
After 5 days I'll send another mail I guess.

Is it common for a company to say a salary in the interview and then backtrack for the contract?
They said $40k and since I'm too awkward to negotiate I basically said "yeah, that's fine with me".
