I don't think your degree matters as long as it's something involving numbers. So yeh, go for it.

How old are you? 23 investment banker here and 100% go finance. Go to “investlikethestreet.com” and enroll. It’ll teach you more about finance than you’d learn naturally in class and get you those good internships at PE firms and investment banks to be an IB analyst when you graduate. I’ll clear $109k this year with bonus at 23. I’ll get my MBA, be an associate, do $175-200k until I’m in my late 20s then lateral into PE as a VP early 30s and make $250-$400k. Finance is the way. Just don’t be afraid to work your face off. I averaged 80 hour weeks this year with the lowest being 60 and highest at 110.

what the fuck. youre gonna learn finance or economics in either. both get you the knowledge you need to start playing "the game".

obviously finance if you care about money. if you want to focus on research get a phd in economics. getting an mba is a waste of time unless your employer is sponsoring you. i majored in economics and made just over six figures (everything included) right out of school, but i also worked 80-100 hours almost every week. the only reason i majored in economics instead of finance was because i couldn't take all the necessary premed courses in 4 years if i was in the business school
t. med student who worked at a bank for a year just to say i did

Either are good degrees. Economics has a higher ceiling, Finance has a higher floor. Your only other option is Accounting. The rest of the School of Business is worthless.

Math > compsci > life science (med school) > engineering > finance > everything else.

Economics is pointless.

It depends on what school you're attending.
If you're going to learn socialist economic theory, probably better to stick with Finance, as it's more objective and standardized across the schools.
If your school teaches Austrian/Free Market/Chicago School economics (Stanford, Duke, Chicago, Auburn), then probably go the Econ route.

The fact that so many people think this makes knowing economic theory extremely useful.

>Get a degree in this order:
>Math
Include physics and I agree
> compsci
Can teach yourself and still work at Google. Age discrimination after 35.
> life science (med school)
Chick degree, AI will render obsolete within 20 years
> engineering
Solid wage slave path, age discrimination after 50.
> finance=economics=accounting
Only other degrees worth obtaining. Maybe some of the other hard sciences - chemistry or geology.
> everything else.
Everything else is a waste of money.

how's med school anon? I'm premed right now but have enough btc + crypto that if the bull run comes in the next few years i probably won't need to work after that. Practicing medicine still sounds like it would be great, even without the financial incentive, but idk if the stress of medschool, long hours of residency, and bullshit paperwork as an attending are worth it. Redpill me, are doctors really just king of the wagies? Not sure what i'd do if not medicine.

You're still going to have some schools that teach free market austrian econ, and some that teach statist keneysian econ. If you can't decide, knowing what philosophy your school teaches might help make the decision.

>are doctors really just king of the wagies?
Doctor is a broad term that encompasses a lot of job types. Most seem to be really high-skilled wage labor. Some are creative problem solvers, and some are very successful small business owners.

young one,

finance will teach you all things of what financial instruments are...

economics will tell you WHY they move up and down. you will understand how the world works from a new perspective.

if you want a job in finance, study economics...

you will learn everything you need to know on the job. i.e studying for the series 7

been a financial advisor since i got out college and the money is pretty good if you're also good at sales.

best of luck!

studying finance is a waste of time as it is a moving target with things always changing... take crypt for example a brand new asset class...if you studied finance 30 years ago you woudn't know anything about the ETFs and anything about all the types of derivatives we have now...

unironically i've been a FiNANCIAL advisor since i got out college (not larping) and the money is pretty good if you're also good at sales.

best of luck!

once you get into a rhythm it's actually not bad. i sit down to study probably 50 hours a week, and then i still make/review flashcards another 5-10 hours a week (this is where i actually memorize stuff). it's really a much better lifestyle than when i was at a bank and i feel like i'm working towards something more meaningful than just working for the jew. of course my only income now is from interest/dividends (i rarely sell stocks/crypto) and tutoring so that part is not so great atm

talking to doctors, it's 50/50 that they're gonna discourage you from going into medicine. i certainly see why, mostly because the clerical work is retarded. some doctors are just unhappy shitheads with big egos and smaller brains than they believe. also most doctors don't make as much money as it is often portrayed. HOWEVER, the business-savvy doctors make a shit load. my uncle sold his share of his practice a couple months ago for $15 million.

when i graduated college i told myself if i got a job making six figures right out of school i would do that instead of medicine, otherwise i would go to med school and be a surgeon. well i made six figures out of school and i went to med school anyway. i have no regrets so far
