Another maximalist that thinks technology will naturally stagnate. Unfortunately, because blockstream cucked btc it will hurt its market dominance in the long run. If it weren't for that who knows where it would be now. Remember satoshi himself said btc was capable of thousands of transactions per second, then he want mia and shit went downhill since for btc's development.

He is largely talking about the 2017 phenomenon where you had all these retarded coins with zero use case (remember Bitcoin Red?)
These things still exist, like VIDT for example (why do you need a cryptocurrency to validate documents? You don't) but it's nothing like the casino it used to be.

>> No.14535482

What value? I had about 1k in assorted alts. I have like $50 left from that.

I don’t think alt coins in general will go away but if the phenomenon he’s referring to is related to the altcoin funding model then yea I think that’s by and large done for.

He's right. If real life customers have to go on crypto exchanges to buy altcoins to use a service, altcoins will never take off. Never ever. Even coins that work in the background with no need for the customer to do anything like EOS is having a hard time taking off.

What are you even saying? That growth has stagnated?
I was one of those people who took the capacity down because it was difficult to use and not exactly safe
Now it's 10x better nodes are self learning the best route and there's incentive to maintain a good node
There are watchtowers and backups and much more
When I started my node 5 months ago to now is night and day how much it improved

>> No.14535980

Bitcoin's hashrate is the highest it's ever been they must be doing something that incentivized miners
Maybe by making the chain more usable with instant transactions that eventually consolidate onto main chain generate more fees than a centrally controlled 1sat/byte bloat chain

it's highly profitable to mine bitcoin atm which is all the incentive they need. after a couple more halvings they'll be largely reliant on block processing fees though. by lowering these lightning becomes a direct assault on the security of the network

>> No.14536381

>>14536320
How do you know fees will be lower?
Bitcoin produces more transaction fees than any other chain it's why all these retard alties think it's outdated tech
They allowing 10,000s of cheap transactions to consolidate into 1 so in the future a $10 transaction fee doesn't sound like much

Don’t engage the 2017 moonboys. They are emotionally attached to their alt bags and will not learn their lesson until they lose 95% of their bitcoins. Anybody here since 2015 or earlier knows this, alts are merely a method of seperating you from your bitcoin. Newfags go look at CMC front pages through the years, you’ll notice something worthwhile.

im a btc maximalist and i will say for the record: (a) lightning will probably never work, and (b) doesnt matter btc will still achieve 90% domination and 100K range.
why?
Because the 2nd layer is going to be in the protocol itself, its going to be a plethora of interconnected outside services.
There will wind up being 2 or 3 major "payment processors". These will each achieve full-spectrum integration with fiat, exchanges, banks, visa, etc....you will use "CashApp" to pay for your coffee and CashApp will fund from visa, bank fiat, libra, bitcoin, etc.
It won't matter to either you or CashApp that BTC txn fees are $15 because they will simply receiving stablecoin transaction from each exchange where they have integration API.
