There are trade offs. What is luxurious depends on the individual. Not everyone cares about having the latest smartphone or gadget. Possessing those won't make up for the fact that you're living a dinky, small apartment in a crowded city full of bums and shit on the streets.

There are more laws and regulations today than there were ever before, and most of these have nothing to do with helping the common people.
