Alright, say you get millions of dollars and you want to park it in an index fund. I had the idea of splitting the lump sum up across 12 months, in order to withdraw 4% on a yearly basis each month for long-term capital gains tax.

Is this doable? Could it all be done within the same index fund or the same account?

Also, the remainder of my VTSMX is haunting me because it’s got a .14% operating cost, which means I’m literally handing my gains over to vanguard for free. Is creating a taxable event by swapping it into SWPPX now, so I can continue adding to it for the next few decades worth it?

T Baby Empire Strikes Back! Honestly it's kinda insane just how many companies you get with T baby stock now. (Wekipedia helps).

AT&T itself (+ each Division)
Time Warner (+ each Division)
Xandor - Advertising
Direct TV

Did you know T owns Otter Media which itself owns Crunchy Roll and a shit pot of overseas TV assets. Then there's the Latin America unit of T which handles Phone/internet access.

So based on value your getting a shit load of assets all for a low low price of $32+ a share.

I'd guess the next biggest would be Disney followed by Comcast.

No, the holdings of VTSMX is not the same as SWPPX, though you might reasonably expect comparable returns from either. If you like VTSMX over an S&P 500 fund, you should switch to VTSAX, which has a 0.03% expense ratio.

If you want to switch out of VTSMX, you should weigh your existing capital gains, how expect the index price to change in the future, and whether you would pay long term or short term capital gains tax. Decide for yourself whether it makes sense.

It makes sense to wait to make your IRA contributions if you need extra cash sitting around just in case. Otherwise, I would just make regular IRA contributions throughout the year.

It means that the ticker price drops over time. So, even though the div yield is high, the value of the principal is dropping in the longrun. Say you buy one share at $100 w/ 10% yield. That is a $10 dividend the first quarter (or whatever), but then the ticker price drops 50%...now your investment is only worth $50 and your dividend payment worth $5. At first you had $110 in stock and div. payment in total, now you only have $55....see the problem? You are losing money in the long run. Your Return On Investment (ROI) is bad

if you don't believe in the company, just cut your losses now and learn from the experience
if it's green tomorrow, just sell when it hits 3.11 or slightly higher
if not, cut your losses at the end of the day if you don't want to hold it
everyone loses money at first, it's ok

I'm not sure about the company in and of itself, but I know they spend a lot on developing these drugs. They're paying many professionals for hundreds of hours of their lives.

It's not cheap or easy, and when it drops, people can flip on the entire company.

It could go up in a couple of months, but there's no certainty it will.

If I were you, I would research the company itself. See if they can maintain. Their debt, their man-power, their CEO, their EPS, their capital, their profit, their successes and failures, etc.

I'm new to stocks as well.
I started 3 months ago.

I've only made $500-$300 so far as well, but for 2 months it was only 5k.

I'm just sharing things I've thought of.
Apparently the stock market acts as a weighing machine, so the true value of a company will shine through the market's valuation of said company.

Don't be a drama queen. The share price went down less than 2% since you bought at $3.11. That's nothing in stocks. If you don't feel confident about the company's future prospects (or don't understand and just bought because someone shilled it in one of these threads), sell tomorrow. You lost $7.50, but that $7.50 was payment for an inportant lesson early on in your investing career. Investing in biotech companies is a highly speculative enterprise because, even if there is promising science behind whatever drug they're developing, you never can know with certainty whether the drug will live up to expectations in clinical studies. It's far safer to invest in companies with profitable businesses with proven products, such as generic pharmaceuticals. In fact, Lannett Company (LCI) is quite favored around these parts, and is currently trading at bargain prices. You might want to check it out.

No, it's not overrated. It's a legitimate broker with certain advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage is the lack of commissions on transactions. That means you can do more frequent trades and buy in smaller amounts. To give an example, suppose I want to buy a single share of ODP. If it's currently trading at $2.00, I can buy it on Robinhood for just $2. If I want to buy that same share on Charles Schwab, I pay a $4.95 commission everytime I purchase stock, regardless of the quantity and dollar amount. For that same $2 share of ODP, I end up paying $6.95 including commission. If I ever want to sell it, I'll end up paying another $4.95, so the ODP share price would need to increase to $11.90 just for me to break even. I would need to purchase a much larger quantity of shares per transaction for it to make sense on Charles Schwab.

I was just joking. Chill out, bro. ODP is still a profitable company. It's not going bankrupt anytime soon, and it's price has declined lately more than is merited. It is currently at $1.84, which is a bargain price IMO. The stock pays $0.10 in dividends per year (more than 5% yield), so even a single-digit appreciation in share price over the year would give an adequate return. You can also make decent money by writing calls. If you want an outside opinion, the CFRA analyst covering the stock gave it a 12-month target price of $2 and fair-value price of $2.40.

You're right that if you look at Black Rock's page for BOE, it does say covered options. Options writing has its own risks. You are placing a limit on your potential gains. If the stock price goes down further than expected, you may end up spending more money to extract yourself from your position than you would have otherwise. According to BR's site the annual returns (including dividends) averaged maybe 2.5% (using a mental math estimate) in terms of NAV and 2% in terms of the share price, so it doesn't appear that the "enhanced" options strategy has really paid off. It may end up giving better returns going forward, but I think that the poster earlier was at the very least "missing something."
