This should help for comparison. Lehman bros. pre collapse had a total combined asset value of $600 billion and it triggered the recession of 2007/8. Deutsche bank currently has net holding of over $1.6 trillion dollars on paper. So total asset value is most likely somewhere between $2-3 trillion dollars with leveraged exposure.

There is literally nothing left to save them with. You can hold out hope, but the truth is, when it all comes down, there is no central bank that will bail them out, it will have to be a global cabal or joint central bank venture, and that will never happen.

The ECB already regularly hangs out LTRO loans in the trillions. Nothing stops them from handing out say a 10 trillion euro loan to DB for 1 year, and 11 trillion the year after, and so on. There would be rising inflation and unhappiness among some people, but the will of the people by and large doesn't matter. Not that it would be sustainable in the long run, but if it can help the people in power enrich themselves for a bit longer they'll do it obviously.

>>14180583
Just because they'll be bailed out in some form doesn't mean their stock will do particularly well, especially considering inflation and we don't know how much further it can drop beforehand. I don't just buy any crypto shitcoin either on random good news if it doesn't have good fundamentals overall.

>> No.14180946

>>14180718
The ECB would not be able to stop the cascading domino effect that would ensue. Sorry, but it wouldn't be able to issue LTRO loans large enough that it wouldn't also collapse the EURO and set off hyper inflation at the same time. Not to mention the immediate run on the banks that would follow.

>Sorry, but it wouldn't be able to issue LTRO loans large enough that it wouldn't also collapse the EURO and set off hyper inflation at the same time.
Hyperinflation is my bet where this is going in the medium term, yes, but I don't see why they couldn't keep this game up for a bit longer with more aggressive LTRO / QE / lower interest rates or whatever else you want to use.

It wouldn't take trillions now, but a few 100 billion could keep them afloat for a while, and afterwards that's just a few more 100 billion and then a handful of trillion. If there's acute systemic risk they're probably already coordinating such rescue measures.

Where there's a will there's a way. The people can take some more inflation. So let them repopulate the villages instead of living in the cities. We can use the sharing economy (with climate change arguments) to take car and home ownership away from them.

Interesting take on Italian banks in LTRO btw, though I haven't verified the claims: http://trumanfactor.com/2012/ltro-ponzi-7194.html
