>I dropped out our couldn't get into college, therefore it's a scam despite the huge amount of evidence suggesting otherwise

Anyone else utterly fed up of this meme on the 4channel business and finance board?

yeah I just realised how fucking depressing this is. better off getting into a trade and only working 6-8hrs a day max for around half the pay. even then though fuck wagecucking why do we do this

>>14042316
Two points I'd make. One is that those charts assume the earning power is directly linked to the education, whereas there's a strong chance that 'smarter' people (who, on average, tend to be more educated) would earn more money anyway.

The other issue is that if you are really bad at building social networks and meeting new people, education is one of the few ways to (partially) overcome that. You're still going to get screwed and overlooked for jobs by people hiring Social Sue and Gregarious Greg but you might at least get something other than minimum wage.

>>14042316
correlation =/= causation
people who could afford higher levels of education are mostly likely better off financially and socially from the start, i.e. they already have an advantage.

Some college basically means "come from good family and dropped out" and it's miles below bachelor's or master's

>taking into account historical data
just because it was a good idea 10 years ago doesn't mean it's the same today. that's basically the whole point of the anti-college argument.

The difference has been getting larger historically and there is absolutely zero reason to expect the trend to have stopped. The "anti-college argument" isn't an argument, it's literally just drop out and constantly lie/make things up and never post any evidence.

i dunno, all these people with 90k student debts and then just a few lucky ones get above average salary today. probably fewer when automation really kicks in. makes you wonder about the education system in USA. schools have always been sources of knowledge but today its so easy to just look stuff up online. unless you want to be a Quantum Physicist or something starting to work 4 years earlier and not get 90k debt might be the better option.

>> No.14043396

>>14043346
>90k debt
Not even reading the rest of it. Your just making shit up/lying, average debt is 30k, 3x less than what you said.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/05/20/how-much-the-average-student-loan-borrower-owes-when-they-graduate.html

The dead give away that there is no argument for not attending is that the pro-college side can simply post statistics whereas anti-college side have to lie, make things up and exaggerate. The other one is how very few smart people (top 10 percent of your hs class) choose not to go.

Correlation is not causation.

There is a shared third cause: Being smart typically gets you both a great degree and good wages.

Who generates the statistics? You know, trudging through the data and prettying up those graphs?

Who has veto power over them being published?

What incentives do the second group of people have? Here's a hint: Money is a much less important motivator than social acceptance.

Or did you not learn critical thinking in college?

>> No.14043516

>T-t-the statistics are fake
Absolutely embarrassing. Get things wrong over and over again then say it's all a conspiracy. The government publishes the statistics on earnings in the national census and obviously there is no "veto power". There is zero incentive for the government to lie.

If you get something undeniably wrong e.g.>>14043229 here, you should present actual evidence or admit you were wrong. If I saw this, I would have zero problems admitting it.

because the internet was invented and became stable in 2010. you can watch lectures on youtube take classes on khan academy and buy pdfs to teach yourself. there is no point to college in 2019, college was great when there was no internet. college other than an md or jd is literally boomer tier

College may be suitable for people going into certain fields (ie,to become a surgeon), but I came to realise that college was the biggest waste of time and money for me when I paid £12 for an online course in python programming a couple of months ago. My university course taught us java for about 2 years. I learnt more in that online course about programming in 5 hours than I did in a whole semester in java at college.
