when there's nothing left to burn, then you have to set yourself on fire. how is responsibility be correlated with real estate? studies show millenials are still traumatized by the subprime mortgage crisis back in 2008 and when the Fed to this day still buys mortgages and doesn't sell any, that doesn't contribute to the sentiment. Add the sharing economy meme of transport and travel when you rent instead of even staying at hotels, then you get the picture of not being tied down to natural law. Land is valuable but in the bigger picture of governments and the market as a whole, with the libor scandal and the general red pill on who owns what, I think that millenials want to be independent and that starts with their own person rather than being a cash cow to be milked. Not having debt is quite good, on the long term one can draw a connection with starting a family and a stable livelihood. On being a landlord, don't do to others what you wouldn't want to be done to you aka the golden rule might be in play.

Duplex I rent out for 650/side. I can't say I have a yearly total cashflow but the duplex brought in over 5k last year and the fourplex I'm projecting year end will be around 2k cashflow, due to the low down payment and the fact that Im taking up 25% of the property.
