13909641 No.13909641 [Reply] [Original]

I dropped out of school very young with mostly failed gcses, lied about them and got into college for a levels. Finished with 4A* but didn't apply to Oxbridge or the top London universities partially cause expecting to be auto rejected due to GCSEs, partially cause zero confidence from parents calling me retarded and unsuitable for education my whole life. I've just finished my 1st year at a AAB entry requirement university, and to be honest I found it painfully easy. I feel so much regret when someone asks which university I go to it's unreal, and am far more confident now I've cut contact with parents.

If I drop out and apply to Oxford would I have a shot despite my awful GCSEs? I am studying physics and a levels are in maths, f maths, physics, computer science.

University is a meme. So is working for an employer. I didn't go to Uni and still hold as senior a role as those that did. Still a wagie though, just get decent money.

Yeah I'm basing this if comparing grades to other people. I'm averaging 90 with little effort.

Yes but the others are probably going out three times a week and attending a lecture or two at best whilst you huddle inside doing the reading and posting on 4chan.

Wait until next year.

What exactly do they teach you in further math A-levels? Here in IB, in further math I learnt linear algebra, geometry, number theory, graph theory, set theory, series and differential equations.

Not most of that. I honestly can't name the topics, look up a level M3 and fp2 for the hardest stuff we did.

What uni?
>I feel so much regret when someone asks which university I go to it's unreal
At least you are not stuck in Birkbeck. A-Levels were piss easy with just a little bit of studying but I was too lazy/depressed for even that.

The fuck did you apply for Leicester with 4 A*?
What are you studying?

Also, clearly don't change uni - it would be retarded to explain to an employer. Just get a first class honours and be done with it.

Also uni isn't actually meant to teach you stuff, it's 4 years of getting fucked up, doing stupid shit and developing social skills / mates who you can count on later on.

You'd be better off breezing through you studies, sleeping with as many girls as possible and joining a shit load of societies to widen your social circle. That's what's £40k student loan is actually for.

Moron.

Well, Birkbeck is absolutely shit. I am surrounded by old people and morons. Entry requirements are BBB or something and in case you didn't know it is a uni for working people. Its only saving grace is that it offers a UoL degree so it is no different to UCL/LSE in that regard but I am pretty sure that those unis are starting to distance themselves away from UoL degrees and offer their own so Birkbeck can't cling to their prestige anymore.
That being said, it doesn't matter what university you go to, your grade is all that matters. Remember when you were told in primary school that it is important what secondary you get into? Remember how supposedly crucial it was to get into a good Sixth Form/College? Now you know that it was all nonsense, and it's the same with Universities. Your grade is all that matters, all else is a worthless sense of prestige, which I admit is difficult to ignore. I do feel shitty about going to Birkbeck even though I know it doesn't matter ultimately. A First is a First.
I'm only really here as a back up plan in case I don't make it trading. I max out the maintenance loan to invest in crypto.

Half cause of awful gcses, half cause of zero confidence cause of shitty parents. Now I would apply to the top ones.

I'm studying physics.

They'll get good degree rankings. It would strike me that you aren't one to make that assessment with your past education and your seeming obliviousness to how university works.

It doesn't matter what grades you have.
Grades mean shit in University, get a degree and be the fucking best in what you do and everything will set in place.

I'm sorry about that it does sound a pretty shit situation.

>it doesn't matter what university you go to, your grade is all that matters.
Unfortunately I don't think this is true cause it's clearly much easier to get top grades and not so good universities, and in my personal situation getting 70 for a first is effortless. Of course could put percentages but I don't think anyone cares.

>Remember when you were told in primary school that it is important what secondary you get into? Remember how supposedly crucial it was to get into a good Sixth Form/College?
Lol I never got told that, just sent to the nearest one.

>>13910365

Could be worse you could have went to Anglia Ruskin or Oxford Brookes and larped that you are in Oxbridge

Better yet, university of Bolton master race.

Durham is a good shout if you want the oxbridge experience with less cunts

>> No.13910438

>>13910347
you could have fucking explained why you had shit gcses and then sold the exceptional a levels as you turning your life around, fulfilling your full potential etc. in your personal statement, or better yet in interviews if you're not autistic (doubt). It wouldn't have worked for oxbridge but for sure it would for top 20 unis with those grades. either way you had 5 options so literally no reason not to apply to the best! Worst case scenario you go to clearing and end up at somewhere like Leicester. Are you sure you're that smart? This was the easy path

>> No.13910440

>>13910405
Insecure? Im a decade out of uni. I'm just saying you have wildly misunderstood university in thinking you have to work hard in the first year. It's meant to be piss easy as they know everyone is out partying. 2nd year is the actual first year and those having fun will displace you from your position then.

Not remotely true. I didn't go to oxbridge, i went to Bristol, but i knew plenty and any image of them as awkward savants is false. It has the same split as most russell group unis, plenty of chads and staceys, plenty of autists and plenty of chinese.
