What went wrong is that they aren't building products which are useable or have any benefit over traditional clouds. They have a nice research project going, but its nowhere near production quality because they half-ass everything just to keep onto their "awesome" schedule. Ask yourself why the sdk has been available for 2 years now, and there is 0 people using it other than trying out the hello-world tutorial. 0 users over 2 years on mainnet with close to 100M in funding (current eth prices) should tell you everything you need to know about this project.

it has great advantages over centralized solutiions, being decentralized you have not to build the datacenter structure

False. Cheaper costs. General decentralization benefits. First time decentralized cloud computations can be verified. World first decentralized energy marketplace. No central point of failure. Companies can use iExec on the backend for computations. Companies can monetize datasets. Companies can monetize AI, and robotics.

>Ask yourself why the sdk has been available for 2 years now, and there is 0 people using it
Well for one, there are definitely people using it. You can see it on the pools yourself. Secondly, the sdk was out before mainnet so I don't know what you mean.

I love that iExecies always love to throw around buzzwords "muh smart cities", "muh 5g". It has nothing to do with that, the gas costs alone are higher than what anyone would ever pay for a task, their software is nowhere near able to handle high loads (I participated in both workerdrops), everything literally needs to be up & downloaded for every task, which makes machinelearning impossible because datasets are too big. Also it does not allow in-deterministic applications to run, precluding most of the interesting stuff. Their software is buggy, and the whole concept sounds nice but in detail it is not feasible on a larger scale.
If you ever think the token price will be change through adoption in the next years, think about how many tasks have to be completed per second. Add to that the absolute shit-tier tokenomics of the token and you are holding a big turd. Just admit, you got swayed by the big promises of gilles & co, but they don't care about token value. They are researchers and are pursueing a nicely funded research operation with very little bearing to what the business actually needs and wants.

That no one is even using their testnet with FREE computation. If no one is using that, why on earth would someone pay money to run on mainnet.

The task has to be run 3 times for verification. Its not cheaper.

You want to run a machine-learning model on dataset X. To do this, the model and the dataset have to be uploaded to all the nodes. Most deep-learning datasets are 10Gb+. Nodes are chosen at random, so you would need to re-upload many times. The time it takes to do all this is already longer than the current maximum time for a task (1h I think).

For one thing, the Chainlink white paper from 2017 talks extensively about SGX integration.
Also, iexec themselves admitted it was "outdated" on the same day that they posted it, and pulled it immediately. Pic related.

It just hasn't been discovered yet.

Think how big of a deal data renting will be from these next years onward. Data is the new oil. iExec are building a private data renting marketplace where AI can rent data to grow exponentially from.

This is a huge accelerator for AI and is needed. They know what is coming. And what's impressive is this is only one of the fields they're innovating in. Even their government knows what's up and gave them a $2 million grant.

Yeah the ETH costs are ridiculous for worker profit, I don't even think it will be profitable when iExec stops feeding the workers.
But they know this, which is why they're introducing an off chain solution. I think it's way too soon to count it out, they've only just released a product. Needs time to perfect.
