People say it expensive, but it's also well paid. I have 10 years experience as front end dev, would it be worth it?

Is it true that a 1 room cost 3-4k per month?

what do you think of the culture? i worked in SF for 9 years before giving up on the bay area. hated that city so much. never lived there, was much happier commuting from oakland or el cerrito.

> Is it true that a 1 room cost 3-4k per month?
yes

> is it really THAT bad?
yes. SF has been subsidizing big players' offices in shitty areas (see: twitter) but not spending any money on all the people they're displacing. homelessness in SF is out of control.

>>13866747
dunno about that. i only saw actual turds on the street a few times.

>>13867956
this is just not true. i worked there and saved a ton of money which i used to pay off my student loans and buy my own place in LA. if you want to work hard and save money it's very easy to do in the bay area, you'll just never have enough money to buy a place of your own.

If a good house costs 300k in a reasonable place and you make 60k, then wherever a good house costs 1.8m you must be making 360k, otherwise you've lost purchasing power (not even taking into account that all those new dollars are at a much higher tax rate). Lived in the Bay Area for almost 3 years (Sunnyvale) doing the tech bro thing. SF was the nastiest city I've ever experienced. Would go up there on weekends/evenings some days and always regretted it - dirty, unsafe, and crowded.

Finally realized there's more to life than making money and got the fuck out of there. Everyone is obsessed with career there and that's all they ever want to talk about. Been way happier ever since leaving, and many of my friends got out too.
