25k is bad but it's not the end of the world, especially if it's at a decent interest rate. you'll earn more money in the future so it will be easier to pay in a few years.

if you have absolutely nothing left to lose you could consider bankruptcy but it's a big decision for such a small amount of debt, DYOR. Also look in to refinancing, especially if you have any kind of security, you could get the payments down to like $150-200/month or maybe less
