The "correct" opinion on Reddit is the one with the most upvotes. That's the problem, it's just direct democracy. What's correct is what conforms most to reality, not what has the most people agreeing with it. That's why 4chan tends to be right on things more...because you cant just read something and come to the conclusion it conforms to reality simply because it has people agreeing with it. 4chan posts are a lot more shaky ground, which, ironically, is what makes it right much more. The fact that on upvote/downvote system exists means you have to actually read the post and its replies (which sometimes act as upvotes, but you end up reading ALL replies which sometimes contain good counterpoints). And if you can't tell if something is right from the post and the replies alone, you have to literally DYOR.
