anyone get theirs?

damn this thing is SWEET

>> No.13716701

Yeah an old one from 2017 that I never even used because I couldn't be fucked into paying transaction fees from withdrawing from the exchanges.

I'm really interested in a hardware wallet now that I'm 100% into the BTC, LTC and ETH. I'm just going to hodl for a few years. So if you don't mind, can I ask you a few questions about them? Does the ledger actually generate your wallet address? Can you generate more than one? Does the ledger generate the seed phrase? Is the ledger reliant upon software updates?

yes to all. If you have a significant amount of money in crypto then I'd say go for it. It gives me a lot of peace of mind and it's very easy to use.

yep. its pretty kino with no cords and just using Bluetooth to send transactions. generating the keys entirely unconnected to anything is pretty sweet too. you could probably use a solar panel to charge the battery and nerve have to plug it into any internet connected device ever.

>> No.13716831

Too expensive for me but it looks cool

>> No.13716832

Nope. Need serious redundancy. Have fun losing your coins in a disaster scenario like getting robbed or having your house burn down.

You can just get the nano s. As far as I remember, it costs the same/slightly less than a trezor.

>> No.13716863

Mine arrived yesterday, I set it up for 45 goddamn minutes, synced it with the software and now the fucking thing just says "bootloader" and won't do anything else.

There's no goddamn way I can put my funds on this thing after it immediately fucks up like this, I'm returning it to Amazon tomorrow

>> No.13716868

>>13716832
I don't think you understand how it works kek. You just memorize a password and keep your seed in a (different) safe location. Losing your ledger =/= losing your coins.

>> No.13716873

>>13716787
the requirement of software updates is kind of concerning to me. what happens if, for example, I get sent to prison for 5 years. I get out and get my ledger that I stashed, but I can't use it because it's old software. I'm fucked then, right?

>> No.13716908

>>13716873
the 24 word seed theat are generated by the ledger wallet can be used to restore your bitcoin on ledger devices, trezor devices and software wallets. so as long as you memorize 24 words in order, you're fine. or right them down and stash them somewhere safe.

>> No.13716910

>>13716873
Absolutely not. Your coins are not stored on your ledger. The ledger is just used to sign transactions safely without having to enter your private keys. You don't need your ledger to access your funds. When you set up the ledger you write down a 24 word seed. If you lose your ledger/it doesn't work/you forget your password you can use this seed to access your funds.

A paper wallet cannot compute ECDSA signatures.

Hardware wallets are not for storing keys, they are useful for signing within a simplified and safer environment than a regular malware-ridden PC.

Paper backups are still useful (that's even how 99% of the Ledger users store their keys), but it doesn't serve the same purpose.
