The file hash being included into the vidt token transfer is the first step in having the file's hashes indexed in a blockchain. From there, the tx message containing the file hashes are further anchored into the other blockchains. Again, could a solution accomplish similar results and be built differently? Sure but why not use the token which already serves an identification purpose to be the mechanism for securely transmitting the file hash to other blockchains? This guarantees that the process is transparent from start to finish and forever auditable.

Wince clients need to be isolated from the fluctuations in token price and that the token also needs a value to pay for the indexing blockchain TXs you need to have it trading. There would be no incentive for token value if the tokens were not burnt and purchased from the market. This creates a staking incentive because of expectation of increase scarcity.

Finally, consumer apps will soon allow the direct use of circulating supply tokens for individuals authenticating any digital file. Other IoT applications under development are not possible without the token (as per the team but I dont have any other details on that yet)
