The real redpill is that the oracle problem is not a problem, it's a mathematical truth. Its solution would always be either paradoxical or flawed. You cannot turn a probabilistic and centralized world into a trustless, deterministic one. You can do your best to make it secure enough tho. That's the point of chainlink. It's literally a bandaid solution but it will remain and dominate for at least 30 years to come. Then, all things will be run in immutable TEEs and stored on public ledgers. Smart contracts will be a new internet connected to an IoT. Until then, our whole world runs on legacy systems and it won't change over night. Chainlink will provide the option to pay for extra security, backed by trust (through legal means and KYC node reputation for example) but it will be good and decentralized enough even for the highest value contracts.

This article is written by a guy who is more autistic than Sergey. Both know that the system that is being built is flawed BUT Sergey knows that perfect systems don't exist. For example statistics always work on the good enough principle. They create data that could be not representative 1% at a time. But if several scientists come up with the same numbers and a chance of failure of 1% it would be dumb to disregard the data and call it not perfect because there's a 0.001% chance it could be off. Striving for Perfection kills productivity.

Explain this to me like I am a brainlet. Why would anyone trust a futarchy oracle? Cant it be wrong? I feel like prediction markets would have called Hillary Clinton as winning the election. Is the Oracle part when the prediction is judged as accurate or inaccurate? Doesnt that either require a human(who is prone to bribes and mistakes) to put in the information about the result or a service like ChainLink anyway? I always thought Augur was a cool idea, but theres no way it provides any useful functionality outside of gambling.

This is true, although everyone should still consider what Zack Hess has to say and Chainlink should address his critiques. But his project "Amoveo" is directly conflicting with LINK so that should be kept in mind.

I don't own any LINK, I own BAT, but I'll tell you this much:

Whenever somebody comes along and has a valid critique of BAT, the Brave team usually addresses that critique either on Twitter or they'll actually go and fix the problem if it's a valid critique. My question is, does LINK ever do anything like this? Like if someone brings up a valid problem with LINK, will Sergey/someone else from the team actually ever address it? Or are they infallible and don't need to ever fix any issues with the project?

>> No.13501419

Theres nothing to refute.

He misses the point of Chainlink entirely. Chainlinks purpose is to create a network that incentives bridging truthful data to smartcontracts in the most decentralized way possible. At the same time compensating smartcontract users in case they receive false data.

Its that simple. Everything else is extra. the security that a decentralized oracle network can provide is just another layer. Is it perfect? no. no system is perfect. But it doesn't need to be perfect. Augur is not perfect as well. He even states this.

If you understand the oracle problem and its limitations you soon realize that Hess article is pointless.

Hes stating the obvious and actually reinforces what we all know. The oracle problem can't be 100% solved but chainlink comes the closest and industries and the biggest institutions are willing to accept Chainlinks solution. There is no other competitor that comes close.
