Hey biz, I recently discovered somebody close to me (who I don't particularly consider a friend nor a foe) who has willfully committed fraud.

Without giving too much details, this person is a d-list actor who shares the name legal name as a A-list actor. This is going to sound very unlikely but I assure you it is true... My acquaintance has been receiving royalties for the past decade, by a clerical error. I dont have the exact figures but I estimate they have pocketed over $500k over time and will continue receiving monthly royalties until somebody steps up and reports it.

I did some research and the company responsible will provide a hefty reward for reporting fraud as described above.

1) Is reporting this a fucked up thing to do? I want the money... but also feel guilty ruining this guys accidental hustle.

2) Is there any way the fraudster will find out that I was the one who reported them?

3) Is there anything I should be aware of before proceeding?

Well making enemies for life isn't a great thing. Also don't expect a 500k reward. If it's 15k is it still worth it?

Also a big chance they try to jew you out for a reward. Maybe visit a lawyer beforehand to get things on paper with the company before you mention the name of this person

Ooo! Let's see if we can figure out who it is!

hmmm.... Is it.. MARK WALBERG (not to be confused with Mark Wahlberg)??

I already spoke to a few lawyers on their free consults and they all wanted to take about 75% of the reward but work pro bono.

This made me pretty bullish on the fact they if they are all willing to take the case pro bono its probably a surefire win for me either way.

I wont give the critical information until I have a formal agreement for reward and 50% deposit on good faith.

no, the two guys literally have the same names. However, their stage names are both different. This is how the clerical error must have occurred.

Send them an email, say your in talks with other laywers. You will pick him if he can do it for 50%.

There is not a thing like a sure win. Having free legal help (and a laywer with a HUGE incentive to increase the reward as high as possible) would be for me a no brainer.

Also remove any connections you have with this actor on social media asp (before some laywer find the connection himself).

How did you found out about this? Was the actor drunk bragging or did you hear it through several people?
