PoS has never been proven to work in a public blockchain, and it certainly won't be decentralized without properly distributing early adopter ETH which will obviously never happen. Not only do I doubt that ETH will ever fully adopt PoS, but I know that if they do they'll find out what happens when you implement social consensus in a public cryptocurrency. PoW is the only truly decentralized consensus mechanism and it will stay that way. Once somebody figures out how to scale it well and keep it ASIC resistant it's game over.

If you put $1k into each of the top 50 coins from 2015 and held until now you'd be insanely wealthy. Many of them died off but a few of them went 1000x. You won't get gains like that with BTC ever again. If you're already close to making it then sure just hold BTC and ETH and wait it out. For everyone else you're better off gambling on a bunch moonshots and hoping you hit one during the next bull cycle.
