/smg/ - I come alive Monday at 8AM EST

Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

The current psychology on TSLA is basically a lite version of early 2016, except short interest is higher, and also not falling so the bounce will be even more epic. Falling candlesticks are not wickless red candles like in 2016 so bears aren't completely in control, but the stock is oversold as fuck being more than 1 stddev below lower bollinger band.

I will be trying to time the bounce here. There's a pretty massive profit potential here.

Here’s the catch anon. I went and bought KHC just before it got JUSTed because it had around a 6% or 5% divvy on my $45. Then some seriously shitty news came out and the stock dropped $10 and they cut the divvy to what is now around 3% of what I paid for it. So now I’m getting a mediocre divvy while my stock lost big time. It’s possible they could cut the divvy again, or it could go even lower than it is now at 32.

With macy’s the divvy could also get cut, or worse, the company could go tits up like Sears and JC Penny’s and then you’re truly fucked. I’ve been debating buying too, but they haven’t done anything to prove they’re stopping Amazon from steamrolling them. Once I see that, I’ll buy in too because it’s a super old boomer company and the divvy is nice.

A. Out of everyone she sees Endgame, there’s going to be a lot of them who think “holy shit that’s so epic, and those trailers after the credits... I should invest in Disney!”
B. Same thing for people who hear about the box office numbers in the news
C. Careful investors like hedgies wait to make sure it lives up to the hype

Also, is the pump Disney gets when they buy comcast’s Hulu shares priced in?

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I think I’m a fool for not doubling down on Disney even though im up 20%. My only hope is that someone decides to sell the news.

You can't. Stock mkt requires someone to buy your shares. Now this isn't always a direct transaction though. Often times it's actually your broker buying them, or a market maker who the brokers sells orders to.
Either way you can't do it instantly in the true sense of the word but you can do it very quickly. Within a second, if there is sufficient demand at your price.

Checks out, go for it, whatever you lose you have the rest of your life to earn back. BUT I think every dollar in the mouse right now is money well spent.

Just saw the cover of Entertainment magazine and realized we have not even begun to moon. Typically Disney dips in summer and surges in winter... we will see if that happens. High gas prices aren’t good for amusement parks, but could be good for that summer lineup.

It's better to exercise something like this the closer you get to retirement. If you can handle the volatility of being invested in stocks 100%, then just stay in stocks. But ask yourself how you would handle a RBD if the market tanked 15%+. If market tanks and you have nothing else to re-balance it with, then you have to wait for the equities to appreciate in value again. Just remember, it's a paper gain/loss until you actually have to sell.

Different strokes when you get down to it. Using VTSAX as TSM and VIG as a high div ETF, they both close to the same spot (screen related). Either would have done well over the last 13 or so years.

At the end of the day, I'd take the TSM fund if only that it's more diversified. Simple as that.

Portfolio Visualizer. This simple assumption just starts off with an initial investment of $10000 and then rides it out to the present.

It does not presume any more money going in. However, that would calculate things out differently I would imagine. The point of the plot is just to show that both tracked each other very well. That's not to say they are the same thing, they aren't. But they both behaved fairly closely over the 13 year trek. If I cherry-picked other dates, let's say when the distance between the two lines is at their greatest, I could make either one look better than the other.

I only prefer TSM because of greater diversification. I don't just want div paying stocks in my portfolio. Others will feel differently and only wants divs. I can see both sides.

Investing in the (inner) city apartments? There are two trends. More apartments for affluent buyers/tenants and slumlording. You're interested in the second. Not sure how many of those have shares you can buy. You either buy and operate buildings yourself (essentially shrink the living space per inhabitant to get more people into the same sqm) or you read anti-gentrification blogs that list names of companies that do that--perhaps you can invest in some of them. [The point with anti-gentrification is that old inhabitants are pushed out and many more new ones come in, the place isn't really gentrified but gets worse.]

>> No.13457444

>>13457359
Thanks!
I was actually thinking more about affluent tenants, they'll pay up just to be kept away from the poors, even if their parking lots are crawling with stray cats and their gym equipment is always broken. They take care of their shit too, aren't going to have to get a new washer/drier because of misuse all the time.

You make a really good point though.

Shit, I would love to get an onsite property management gig, I should look into that again. Rent is the fucking devil.

>> No.13457565

>>13457444
(Checked again.) The upfront costs to build/buy/operate property for affluent customers are way higher than slumlording. While I prefer the upscale side of property as well, I observe what in my city (a sister city of yours) is done regarding slumlording. Not all of that is slumlording in the bad sense, just the trend to shrink the living space per inhabitant.

In the worse cases, it's basically the business of putting more poor immigrants and Gypsies into houses in cheaper areas, making them even cheaper. The Gypsy cases are especially extreme, with up to 30 inhabitants in an apartment made for four and then take a tiny rent per person. Or they buy moderately good houses, make the apartments smaller and make two apartments per floor into three or four. Or they buy large family homes, demolish them and the trees around them, build shitty town houses there instead with little distance in-between.

Newly built properties for the semi-affluent clients follows a similar trend. You see it in the height of the rooms. While older building had four or five floors until they reached the allowed height limit (thanks, building code), they squeeze six or seven floors into the same height. Only the high-end customers get awesome stuff. But it's a very expensive market with high entry-barriers if you do it yourself. Slumlording is affordable, though it feels shitty. At least you have a higher chance of investing in the upscale property businesses. The slumlords are shady, dislike visibility, and operate a lot with insolvency fraud.

Yeah, sorry for that blogposting.

I know this is /smg/ but you people are the ones I want to ask since I trade forex and equities, not crypto. Moving forward, would it be beneficial for me to look at crypto as a sort of equitable share of blockchain services? I'm seeing a lot of tempting ventures that I want to dip my feet into, but I don't know if the currencies they're tied to should be treated as digital coins or as part of their equity.

>> No.13457830

>Slumlording is affordable, though it feels shitty.
High-end housing is still fucking the poors by pricing them out of the area, and decreasing the supply of housing, making slumlife more expensive. It's a shame, but there's no real incentive to build affordable housing. So many reasons to be concerned for the future, but I'm still somehow betting on USA, and expect this market to go higher.

I appreciate the detail, I think it's only blogposting if its all self-indulgent and irrelevant. Speaking of which, I need to find a better place to live. Both in the shortterm and the longterm.

Some boomer guy I know is trying to get me into forex trading. His multimillionaire friend bought a trading platfrom for like 7 figs that he says is really good, and boomer friend says this guy is starting his training course at $2800. After that, rich friend would give me $15,000-20,000 to trade with (multimillionaire guy is giving boomer friend 100k because they know each other). But I can apparently do a 30 day trial without paying the $2800 for training.
My boomer friend made 40k/mo trading options like 20 years ago but his wife made him stop because of a loss.
anyways, I don't know much about this stuff but I know forex is pretty volatile, but boomer friend says it's actually easier/less work.

GAMEPLAN:
MONDAY: Picking up Target if it's still cheap, and holding until we get the 2nd or 3rd quarter GDP report. It seems we got juiced by clearing out products before next tariffs, and by inventories buildup in anticipation of consumer spending continuing to pump. I might want to take profits in case that slows down.

Also eyeing: Tyson foods (I have no foodchad holdings), Anthem and United Health (Bernie bottom, already rebounding, Biden isn't nearly as radical), Axon (formerly Taser, nonlethal force seems like a good bet in the era of counter-protesting), Ruger Firearms (muh cold dead hands), and Apple (buy the fucking dip and always bet on Tim).
Also: Disney could rally, I think I might buy more monday morning but flip it later in the week.

Think of agriculture as a real estate play rather than as a business on its own. It’s a productive use for the land before it reaches a higher use.

I’ll tip you off to this opportunity because I’m less than a mile away from someone doing this, first in the nation development too.

Old K-Mart converted into storage units, parking lot is now townhouses. Next fifteen to twenty years they are going to pop up in every vacant big box. Thank me later.

>but there's no real incentive to build affordable housing.
It highly depends on the market and jurisdiction. High land prices, zoning laws, and building regulations often make it expensive to build houses in the first place, making it uneconomical to address lower incomes. When I studied American and European urban markets, to my surprise they're usually both filled to the ceiling with regulations. Betting on urban growth is probably a good idea, provided one looks at the demographic trends before (household sizes and inflow of new people) to avoid imploding cities. Where you have shrinking household sizes and a growing population, you'll have housing shortages as the demand for smaller and affordable apartments grows.

Publicly-traded owners are interested in building new houses, addressing both the cheaper and affluent markets. They have the money and it's just a number game for them. Their business model scales. But zoning, unavailability of land, and an inefficient (often self-serving) public administration make it hard or impossible. That's in larger cities. In smaller cities the local owners have an interest in artificially limiting supply and they have the political connections to push that through. Different causes. Large city: complexity, conflicting incentives, and inefficiency. Smaller city: ill-intent. That's my observation at least.

Penny stocks are small companies with limited cash reserves to make it through tough times. The risk isn't just about the volatility of the share price. One or two sufficiently bad events can bankrupt a small cap. In the case of small biopharma labs, you are one bad clinical trial result away from losing 50%+.

That isn't to say you can't make obscene gains trading them. It's just important to understand exactly why the risk level is so high.

Well I’m glad it worked out well for you. Some of those are real winners, and I think LPTX could pan out well in the end.

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. If making money in the stock market were easy to do then everyone would be doing it, and we’d have a lot more people getting rich.

Some of my thoughts:
I think target (TGT) will bounce back quickly, 3-5% then I have no idea what it will do. If trump’s tough talk at the rally gets a lot of play in the media, the exact opposite could happen. I think healthcare/biotech/pharma is due for a rally as well, but keep an eye on the news. If Biden says anything positive about single payer, abandon that ship immediately.

Trump’s rally could hurt, wednesday’s fed meeting could hurt if they hint at raising rates. Bad fed news will get worse on Friday, if the jobs report shows high jobs growth. This week could be rough.

Depends on what you’re trying to do, and how much risk you can tolerate.

You can’t “constantly trade” unless you have an account valued at $25,000 or more. If you don’t, then you have to be careful not to buy and sell the same company’s stock in the same session. That is called a daytrade. You can do this twice, but on the third time you will be prohibited from daytrading for 90 days.

Dividend stocks can be useful, especially in an IRA, but to receive the dividend you must be holding the stock the day BEFORE the ex-date.

Again, it all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish.

Goodnight everyone. Please stop trump from saying anything stupid, and Biden from adopting the Medicare for all platform.

I don't mind Northman, I appreciate that he posts stuff for free instead of grovelling for a subscription.
Besides that, interesting ideas to have in mind, but nothing I'd call great. Even for chart analysis it's extremely simple stuff; he draws obvious lines and then says something like 'isn't this interesting'.

basically if the stuff in his articles and videos isn't already obvious to you when you look at index charts, you will get something out of it.
5/10 for his content,

but now that I look at it, it's Gray Market OTC
BPMX may be more interesting (+1800% friday kek)
Also CPRX, YTEN look fun. And AMRN was mentioned here.
IGC - India Gloablization Capital, CBD treatment of Alzheimers and other diseases, probably just a meme.

ZYNE has been on my list for a while, up 35% last week. This one actually looks like it could be more than a P&D.

Finally PRPO just tanked after a 1:15 R/S, attempting to regain compliance with NASDAQ and "getting closer"

The ones I'd most like to research are YTEN and ZYNE.

Nah, you did fine. Would encourage a lot of people to consider Roth's because the money that goes in and all earnings are tax free. Also when you reach retirement age you won't be required to take the money out of a Roth like you eventually will with a 401k/403b/457.

Futures looking ever-so-slightly red, but look to Walter Disney to surge even higher.

Avengers not only broke 1 billion, it's at 1.2 billion and breaking records abroad (China).

Buy into weakness on Target, or buy into strength on Disney. Or buy the news in Amazon. Or buy more of the Bernie dip in healthcare. It's going to be a good day for bulls.

Help me tweak my strategy folks, I can't afford to buy everything.

to put this this box office weekend into perspective, Disney generated $59.4 billion in revenue in 2018

right now the avengers has generated $1.5 billion. that is 2.5% (1/40) of last year's total revenue... in a weekend... for one Disney movie.

more than likely End Game will generate close to $5 billion in Disney Revenue between ticket sales, merch, digital downloads, and hard copies of the movie after everything is said and done.

I want you to look at Netflix's market cap and then back at Disney's and then imagine Disney getting a quarter of Netflix's market cap added to theirs because that is what is going to happen by the end of the year after Disney+ gains traction.
