/smg/ - KHC & FoodChads edition

Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

When I say "I can't say the same about T" it's less in saying I think they will fail and more that I just don't know about their future. If the TMO sprint merger goes through, then I think they are gonna have a tough time keeping up with their wireless offerings. They still have plenty of underground networking though, so they can always fall back on leasing out their network. But from a purely wire less perspective, their customer service sucks, nobody cares about exclusive phones anymore, prices are high, and I think their speeds aren't really anything to praise. Just my two cents. In my m1 portfolio for dividends, I keep an even split of both VZW and T because telecom is gonna boom like fuck with 5g, I just don't know what Ts future in 5g will be

What's the expectation for MSFT earnings (4/24)? Currently trading at around $123 analysits target is $125 I'm holding a 5/17 call at $120 my gainz are around 52%

I've seen companies beat their expectations only for the stock to plummet. What is the probability of this happening to MSFT?

Safe is a rather arbitrary term. But selling covered options, both puts and calls, are one of the safest ways to build capital. Since you‘re new, selling puts is basically a limit buy order, except you get paid to place the order. If the stock falls below the strike, you now own those shares (and keep the credit obv). Covered calls earn you premium on shares you own, effectively reducing your cost basis on those shares. If you get assigned on a call, you still keep all the premium and sell your shares at the strike. If the strike is above your cost basis for that stock, you‘ve made profit.

tl;dr you get paid for buying and selling shares as normal.

Tesla as a car company was always a ruse. The secret to Tesla is it is a robotaxi software company that built the lowest cost solution (EV) and has the largest training fleet by 100x all competitors combined.

The production of cars was secondary and of lesser value than self driving at the lowest cost price in the world and having 3+ years headstart on roll out.

having a bit of a hard time in this market the past few weeks
I see things I like and I buy them, I make gains that are roughly in-line with the market.

But if something really puts the market on its ass in the next couple weeks I won't be super ready for that.
I mean in the mid term (like 50 months) the goal is to navigate a bit of a market downturn and buy nice things cheap.
But I'm seeing things that are good values already, I can buy them and make decent returns. So I'm worried about getting greedy and caught with my hand in the cookie jar if/when the market really dumps. At the same time, I'm not even making as much as some other people. And it gives me the feeling that I should be playing a little more, risking more in the markets to achieve more gains, while my long term strategy is all about controlling risk and making sure not to lose money.

Says a lot of nothing, maybe. Maybe I put too much time into trading to be so diversified and safe. I just don't have the intensity to really fight the market right now. I don't see anything too out of position that I think I should strike at it

Telecom: 23 percent
Industrial Sectors: 15 percent
Consumer (food, retail) 11 percent
Automotive: 9 percent
Technology: 9 percent
Yearly dividend payout is about 4.1 percent.

Thoughts? I'm thinking of dropping real estate down since it shits out so hard in terms of its overall value.

If you use a bond etf as you're savings account you're going to run the risk of it breaking the buck, that is you might loose some of your principal at the time you withdraw. That said, generally just go with anything that's primarily government bonds. Alternatively, if you're not planning to touch this money for a long time, you could get a savings bond from treasurydirect or buy agency debt.

Buying KO is fine. but of course you want other things too.
I bought KO right when they tumbled from $50 in February, I've generally had OK luck buying the consumer goods companies when they dump (CAG at 21.28, etc.). Currently shoveling money into KHC and NWL while they stabilize.

Holding cash is fine, up to 25%, 50% even, if you can be smart and put it to good use when you see an opportunity. Maybe 50% is too much, but certainly you want a few Yang in the chamber that you can throw at a good stock if it dumps.

I think my company only matches 2.5%, so I put 3% in my 401k. Don't really care about retirement age, by that time I'll have more money than I know what to do with. But definitely hit the match.

SOMEONE check my logic here. I don’t want to mislead this young son.

They’re good. Useful for companies that make money but aren’t big growers. But they’re priced in. Theoretically, if your dividends are reinvested, you’ll get the same returns you would if the same company’s shares cost less but didn’t pay a dividend.

(generally, you would want a company that Has been consistently paying and raising their dividend for years. IDEALLY you want that company to have major growth potential as well. Think Disney and their new Disney+ service. Think a company that already knows how to make shit load of money and had been killing it in Hollywood without getting #MeToo’ed. That company is now getting a Netflix sized growth engine
...with a market that has enough money for both now that they’re cancelling their cable service, and Disney already owns most of Hulu. Think of the fact that they now own Star Wars, The Avengers, The Simpson’s, X-men, and all those Marvel TV Series on Netflix. This is the worldwide theme park owner, who the fuck wouldn’t want to go on a ride from one of those series? Think of Frozen 2, The new Avengers movie, the new Toy Story movie, the new Lion King. Think of Pixar. Think of all those families needing something to do with their kids.

Also think of Altria, the tobacco giant, owning a cannabis company and an e-cigarette company.)

The two most important things for new shooters are this. 1 - don't worry about what other people think. You might look like an idiot who can't shoot and knows nothing about guns and that's fine, everyone starts there and 2 - if anyone offers advise listen, it's usually a great community, but also think about what they're telling you to do and see if it works for you before committing to changing the way you shoot. Other than that watch lots of youtube, the worst thing for me about learning to shoot wasn't the shooting, but the gear issues. Learn to zero your scope if you're using one by watching lots of videos on the different techniques. I have a lead sled (a shooting rest) that can lock a rifle into place. So to zero a rifle I pull out the bolt and actually look down the barrel and compare where the scope points vs where the barrel points before I even shoot (when possible, depends on the rifle). Wear ear and eye pro, and bring back ups. Remember batteries for any electronic gear you're using (typically just scopes, but you never know.) Gloves are cool. But as far as actual advise shooting goes, remember the affect your trigger pull has on your accuracy. You have to squeeze the trigger, not jerk it backwards. Shoot slow before you shoot fast. Get splatter targets (sold at every shooting store every) not the plain paper as you won't be able to see where you shoot otherwise. Get a good target stand, not a cheap wire one. The one I use is just a steel base that accepts 1x2s you can buy at homedepot for like $2 as the attachment points. Shoot from different positions at different types of targets. (clay pigeons are awesome for any gun, cheap soda for something a little more reactive....). Most importantly though, learn the 4 rules and follow them religiously. Be safe and have fun anon.

Well they don’t seem to be pumping any breaks on it and only further policy destroying middle class. The future is pretty fucked if you don’t have a lot of money

Thanks fren, I'll remember this. I think I'll just have iron sights for a bit and learn to point and shoot that before I slap on an optic. Actually though, is there anything out there that measures the angle of elevation of the muzzle? Just like a protractor/waterbubble thingy that reads off an angle?

Don't need to. Pic related. I'll get a handgun later if I enjoy the rifle. Always liked the look of CZ75s.

Good luck. If you are in school that doesn't sound like a dire situation though.

sony, nintendo, twitter, and tesla are kinda memey. But I give it a solid techfolio/10. Definitely brag to /g/ later when you make it.

Trump has a solid and big base unlike obama, but to get that big base you need to risk the rest of the votes, you won't see trump with more than 50% of approval but you also won't see him with less than 40%, and the rest is you talking shit at this time of the year reagan had 35% and obama 38% and they got easily re-elected trump is fine.

Thanks.

But how so? School means that I have a very limited schedule that changes every semester to find a new job with. And I can’t get a job in my field for at least 2 years.

Really don’t want to be a lyftcuck. My car is pretty dirty.

The economy was much worse when they had those ratings. And we have seen Trump less than 40% many times

Wow, fuck this guy.

He has insane resources at his disposal, and he spends it on self-driving cars, something we can already do? I’ll do just fine driving my own car, no thanks.
