Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

holding TVIX very long term is almost always a losing proposition because of the way it's leverage works, makes basically certain it will decay over time. I don't think so, basically the run up on bitcoin was because everybody wanted a piece of these icos and the only way to get them was buy purchasing bitcoins. Now who was in control of the supply of bitcoins? The same people in charge of the icos, so basically the hype momentum and pure speculation of the ico market basically drove the price out of control while average investors basically got dumped on twice. Not to mention it's not like they serve any real purpose.

sure, anything can happen. personally, i'd rather gamble on something more reliable like stocks than pump and dump schemes.

look at this board and look at how many shitcoins are introduced daily. look at the the average post quality and mentality behind crypto "investors". they all speak of moon missions and dumping their bags eventually. it says a lot about crypto when its buyers don't even understand the spirit and concept of what crypto was trying to do and only think about converting back to fiat once they've "made it". if you want to buy crypto, then at least stick with bitcoin.

trading volatility can be incredibly difficult. Some great advice I got from teh profit ages ago is that it's much much easier to short volatility after a spike than it is to predict a lowpoint and go long. With the demise of XIV that's become a lot harder/riskier, especially if you're using only robinhood. Remember not to use the TVIX/UVXY charts to track volatility, pull up a chart of VIX itself on tradingview, much more accurate.

Trade with less money and learn what happens when you make emotional decisions. I'm only trading around 750 for that reason alone.

Eventually, you see what happens when you panic buy and panic sell, but when you're new to the market, everything seems like a big deal. I tried hopping on biopath and ended up buying the top. I've also held companies too long. I'm not saying I'm the king of good experienced decisions, but it's okay to make a mistake, and its okay to find out you are wrong. But it is inexcusable to stay wrong. I don't think dropping out of the market is a great idea. Just learn what happens, and force yourself to do the opposite.

>dollar has value only because people believe in it too
dollar has value because debts (in america) have to be payable by (at least) cash

in theory US military can collect dollar debts from other countries by force, but you get much better results using economic treaties and laws to "force" that repayment

its hard to collect debt from a country full of corpses

also gold is better than silver in a few ways, including being more dense (an absolute must for durable radiation shielding, such as in space), and more chemically electro-negative than silver (+3 cation instead of silver's +1)

cost (and scarcity) is what causes us to use copper wiring in powerlines instead of silver or gold for example

>>13147939
thats a terrible analogy

like comparing how people didnt know what hydrogen or carbon was until a couple hundred years ago but they were still using or interacting with hydrogen before then

stores of value are measured by their scarcity, and their usage by (whoever it is you wish to make a transaction with), the only physical thing that matters to have a good store of value is durability, and scarcity

leveraging is a good way to lose money
> have them scraping several pennies worth of stock price off the top of your orders so you end up paying for higher entries..
basically the only good point you've made in this entire diatribe. My limit orders hit 80% of the time, and when they don't I'm paying a 0.2% hit on $2000 trades = $4.00, still less than $5.
I saved $2,000 in trades last year. The only time I'd go conventional is if my account was $250k or more. But still I'd have to test the market buy performance.

He thinks (or says, at least) UBER, lyft, Airbnb, Slack, Pintrest, WeWork, and Postmates are going to get a massive pump. Major institutional investment, from big bois who don’t want to be seen as “flippers”. Could cause liquidation of other assets (eg. Dumping on FAANG)

Also thinks they could get normies (numales) interested in the market and could mean surge of new monies.

Hi, here's what's gonna happen.

BTC will die. The newer crypto will take over.

People will watch the market crumble, and it wont help waiting for it, because YOU SHOULD NEVER SHORT THE MARKET.

Once it crashes, people will realize crypto is the only real option to moon, unless they're waiting for a 5 year readjustment to make a shitty 20% gain that they can make in a single day with the right coin.

Once people make their first 100k with the new cryptos, they'll go on to create their own cryptos.

/biz/ will flourish with crypto theory, ipo theory, macro-crypto predictions.

We will become the awesome board we've been waiting to become.

1.) no sources to produce industrial supplies of spider web (no one has millions of tons of spiders each individually hooked up to a silk spinning machine)

2.) its properties change drastically with humidity, and temp
a bridge as strong as steel on a cold dry day might be as strong as wet spaghetti on a warm rainy day (or visaversa, idk spider silk;s exact properties off the top of my head)

3.) just a hunch, but when people say its stronger than steel, they usually mean tensile strength
spider silk might have shit compressive strength (think the opposite of concrete, unbelievably high compressive strength, but its tensile strength is shit)

or the strands geometry might cause the stress/strain fields inside of the material to do some magical buggery like pic related (look up prince ruperts drop (the bulb can withstand almost any force, like a bullet fired directly at it)

also its shear strength might be shit, doesnt matter if the strings holding up your suspension bridge are made of the strongest tensile material in existence, if you can cut them completely from the shear force from the edge of a dry leaf brushing the wire at the right angle

im sure theres more reasons, sincs its an organic product im sure theres a bunch of common chemicals that can corrode it (if you ignore the very common chemical called water that can fuck up its material properties in very noticeable ways)

TLDR: strength can be a terribly generic or misleading description when used to make news headlines

the real insane thing is the physics behind it (deriving the fucking plane equations to map out the drop's internal stress field too)

because of how it cools when the drop is formed, the outside of the bulb is basically trying crack in every single place at the same time, and the inner core of the bulb is too due to huge residual stress, but this stress actually works to strengthen instead of weaken the bulb (but if a slight force causes the weak tail to break, such as the inertia from the tail's own weight if the drop just moves too fast, the crack will propagate to every single point in the drip at (essentially) the same instant

basically you cant break off a piece of the drop, breaking one part of the object (one crack, one dent, one scratch, no matter how small), causes the entire object to break, and with such a high internal pressure, when the part fails, it fails explosively

One glaring flaw in your explanation is the “baby raping factory”

Is this supposed to be a factory that produces babies that have been raped? Not likely! The raw materials (babies) would be highly problematic to source. Are you supposed to buy them on the black market? Then you’ve created an baby raping orphanage, hardly a factory. Are you going to source the babies in house? Then you’ve created a human breeding facility that rapes babies. At best, you could call it a raped-baby factory.

Another concern is your means of production, particularly your baby rapists. To create a uniform product, you’ll want to use the same baby rapist on all of the babies, which will limit your ability to scale up production. For practical purposes, your baby rapist should NOT be a baby-rapist.

Missing the point that the guy should have made. Kraft-Heinz makes garbage processed foods. No one would ever want to buy their "cheese" if they have ever had the real thing.

Americans seem to think that not processed means organic. No, the opposite is to actually have decent food products, even if they may be factory made. The traditional american food market has always been ripe for some serious disruption because of the low quality of burger food culture, the current organic craze is just the current face of it.

When Americans will realize that organic is overpriced, the logical next step is no-frills fresh foods & produce, not going back to processed foods.
