Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

If you want to be a Foodchad you need to look at whats important, not just interest rates. You need to think about Acquisitions, unique transportation costs, and Gen Z.
You want GIS and SJM for the petfood. MDLZ owns the entire Gum marketshare. TSN was only brought down from Chinese scandalous.
And the best of all, CPB will become the next PEP. Not only have they secured the pretzel marketshare but also the entire Salt and Vinager marketshare. Buy these on the next dip and youll beat the SPY year after year

I am a 24 year old doomer with absolutely no achievements, accomplishments, things of note, anything substantial whatsoever to show for my life so far

My life is just one big show of mediocrity. I did mediocre in high school, went to a mediocre shit state school, got mediocre grades, with a mediocre degree. Now I am working a mediocre job, living with my parents, making mediocre wages and I have no friends. Every time I tried to make something of myself, pursue something, my family would cut me down, criticize me, verbally abuse me, insult me. And I am stuck, living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, so moving out is simply not an option.

Sometimes I want to die, but other times I know I am still privileged, so I continue my banal existence.

A recession is in the real economy, not the stock market. And no, most people are invested in indexes, especially retail investors. The collapse in demand is what gives a recession its sticking power, this is rather hard to fix without stimulus. And now with monetary policy pretty much useless, it's very hard to see what will push us out of recession this time besides massive fiscal stimulus.
