I just did that for around 15% Monday, because I wanted to add 100 to the block I already owned, but added another block by mistake.
Because of FIFO, when I went to get rid of it, the brokerage sold my original position, realizing the loss.

you're letting other people buy the stock rather than holding onto it for your own gains. I usually set my sell price to be a bit lower than I could because I want to let others get in on the gains too
