Is inflation a good or bad thing?

>> No.13020684

it's good if you have massive amounts of debt you never really intend to pay back. you know, like governments.

- inflation up to 2% is a good thing to increase economic growth
- above 2% it's a bad thing
- deflation from an economic perspective is a bad thing - for the environment, it's probably a good thing because of production/consumption decrease

I'm a brainlet, does increased economic growth devalue a currency (in the sense that a dollar today isn't worth as much as a dollar 100 years ago)?

>> No.13020749

>>13020723
that's dependent more on the velocity of money

Okay, Wikipedia gave me a rough idea of what it is. So let me expand on my question: Will the value of our currencies continue to decline? Will 1000 dollars be worth the equivalent of 1 dollar today in 100 years?

All signs point to yes
Countless fiat currencies have inflated into oblivion as well, only a fool would hold any significant amount of it
Makes crypto all the more exciting

Controlled, predictable inflation is a good thing (for the economy). Uncontrolled, unpredictable inflation is a very bad thing.

Don’t listen to this Keynesian stooge. This model is not sustainable and is completely short sighted. It’s also morally wrong because it basically steals wealth from the people without them even having any idea it’s happening to them. The vast majority of people believe inflation is just a natural component inherent to any economy. This is false — the inflation is a result of printing more money and giving banks the legal ability to only possess only a fraction of the funds that they loan out (I.e. fractional reserve banking. The fact that so few people understand any of this and it’s almost never taught in schools should give you pause.

Inflation fucks over the one who wants to stash his money under his mattress. But collectively it's a good thing because without it that persone wouldn't have a job to stash his cash in the first place. Austrians are the flat earthers of economics

what the fuck is wrong with saving you dumb nigga
consumerism society pushes you to spend money on useless shit
plus, when creating jobs becomes the primary goal, we begin asking "where to build bridges" instead of "do we fucking need bridges"
poorfags think they are making it by earning newly minted fiat, when in fact they are enslaving their future children

Inflation encourages people not to hold more cash than they need. Which is helpful because the only value cash has is to move value from person to person. It doesn’t do anyone any good sitting under a mattress. So presumably if you aren’t hoarding cash, you’re either spending it on something you want to consume (giving fuel to the economy) or investing in something (providing capital that can be used for further economic activity).

Inflation is literally the best thing ever. People who have US Dollar assets take it up the ass, people who don't need to face the voters for another four years get to have free money
