12949983 No.12949983 [Reply] [Original]

An Aldi opened up near my house and I went in for the first time yesterday. I was just completely blown away by the prices. And the store was packed. I don’t know why anyone would get groceries anywhere else.

How do I long Aldi and short the various other grocers in the area? Seriously I want to invest in Aldi.

When I was a kid in the suburbs Aldi was known as where the "poor kids" families shopped. If we had one around me I'd shop there, but all we have is Trader Joe's. Anyway Aldi is private, you could short Amazon where the cosmopolitans shop.

Those discount stores have massacred all retail in Europe in the last 10 years, but the problem now is that there's no longer any competition on the market so the prices are rising very quickly.

Aldi and Lidl are quite big in the UK, but I wouldn't say they have "massacred" other stores. There are still plenty of things you can't find in them, and a lot of the time they sell off-brand garbage products, so you're better off going to something like Sainsbury's or Asda (known as Walmart in the US).

But you can bet on other grocers underperforming. Maybe long sp500 and short grocery chains or brand groceries like Kraft Heinz... But then again this thing already dropped like a rock.

europe isn´t just europe.

in germany for example "being cheap" is well accepted in the culture and everyone is buying their food as cheap as possible ( except meat ).
even rich people will go to aldi/lidl and buy there because you just can´t buy shit there because of the restrictions of law in germany.
is is basically imspossible for them to offer shit product. quality standards are high.

the only problem i see with aldi is their vergetable portfolia. they put all the vegetables over each other which ruins it.

the more expsensive foodmarkets will take care of it better.
but the quality is the same.

and most of the products are produced in the same factury.
aldi, lidl, rewe, edeka..all of their product come from the sames producers.

aldi and lidl short their portfolia and doesn´t do advertising that much therefore they have less costs, and just offer big quantities of the basic stuff.

Slightly off topic, but 7/11 in Japan vs USA is like whole foods compared to C-town. The nips really know what they're doing. Actual good quality food, onigiri, fresh bowls of noodles with veggies/protein, hentai mags, sake. It's great

Dude everybody knows Aldi is for poor people. At least it used to be, pretty much everybody who isn't a pompous douche with more money than sense shops there nowadays. Its nothing like walmart.

I remember on /b/ like 07-09 there'd be threads posting ridiculous coupons. I never went for the shit like free consoles or getting cashback, but would do the family sized tendies/pizza bites for like $2. I only did it a handful of times but made sure to go to a different location each time, there's a lot of supermarkets near me

There's a clear rich/poor divide in the suburb of Chicago that I live. In the beginning, only the poor people shopped there. Now there are BMWs and Mercedes and Range Rovers etc outside all the time. The rich folks just said fuck it and started shopping there. I wouldn't call them hipsters, more like yuppies.

I'm from new jersey and one just opened up a little over a year ago. I'm 27 and just from the grapevine, a lot of people my age like it, but then again many my age don't make all that much, but I wouldn't classify them as poor either. Just your typical barista type. First time I ever saw an Aldi, I was in Vermont and got a bunch of shit to cook and didn't know they don't bag your shit, it was really annoying

well desu i bought the worst apples i tasted in my life from aldi, literally tasted like sweet vomit, it's no accident you can rarely find the same brands you can find in other stores
but if you don't notice the difference, good for you, enjoy cheap food. i don't think they're any more unhealthy

What's the big deal with this place? Is it a meme or some mass delusion? Their selection is utter shit near the expiration date and all the staples I usually want are pretty low-quality. Also the crowding is horrendous. Mayb it's a Texas thing, since I've been to two.

Winco is better

You're either a liar or a retard. Probably both.
