So the flower cards have two functions, they are collectibles like cryptokitties stored on the blockchain, but also, when the game is live, they can be 'planted' on your farm patch, grown, and bred with each other to make new cards. You can already try out breeding at flowerpatch.app

Hey dude. The Flowerpatch game will be an MMO, a farming simulator MMO like Harvest Moon. The FLOWERS are collectible cards and used in game, and they generate/drop SEED, which the developers are planning on being a cryptocurrency used in-game, to transact on the game marketplace, buy items in game etc.

This is much, much more than just a collectibles game. Check out the Hackernoon article linked in my OP it explains the concept of FLOWERS and SEED tokens.

Alpha release is scheduled for Q1 2019.

Flowerpatch is a browser-based cannabis farming & cryptocurrency MMORPG in development. Players will manage their virtual farms through planting and harvesting cannabis crops. The FLOWER tokens (cards) - acquired through market purchases, player trades, harvesting, and breeding - will be usable to plant new and potentially unique flowers in the game world.

The breeding system enables players to breed FLOWER cards in attempts to gain desirable traits in unique offspring FLOWERs. Randomization algorithms may also grant offspring stats or traits not found on its parents.

Harvesting a flower may yield SEED or NUG tokens and potentially a FLOWER card.
SEED tokens will be used as in-game currency to purchase additional farming land, better farming equipment, and other items.
NUG tokens will be redeemable (like vouchers) for real cannabis, at supported legal cannabis dispensaries.

Inspired by farming games like Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and Minecraft (farming/botany addons), the Flowerpatch developers are hoping to make the best multi-player farming game and the best cannabis game. Well, the cards are going out for free, so even if you only scooped those you'd be playing for free. But the ETH used for breeding contributes to development costs. The alpha is scheduled for release soon, so you can try out the game world too

You're right that pretty much every crypto project (including Cryptokitties, Decentraland, ect) hinges on players trusting the dev team. Without a dev team breathing life into the project, any crypto project quickly dies. This applies beyond crypto to any game company -- e.g. if Blizzard files for bankruptcy, WoW will die.

If you're skeptical, you can always make a fresh metamask address, get a free card from one of these threads, and play the game using your new eth address. As always though, it's crypto, so be safe homie!

Each FLOWER card has an indicator on it to denote it's rarity, either common, uncommon, rare, epic or legendary. There's also different scales within these classes! But the Stats are also very important when the game launches.

That button is greyed out right now, because the Flower Market is not P2P yet -- the dev team has plans on implementing a P2P exchange into the flowerpatch . app site eventually.

However, you can still sell your Flowers P2P on OpenSea.io -- it works the same way. You log in with Metamask, enter a price, and sign with your MM wallet to confirm. Once someone buys your card, they receive it and you receive Ethereum.

That is one of the things to take notice of when it comes to flowers as an asset. Pre-launch, they are considerably easier to come across. The price will likely increase at it takes time to plant a strain and let it grow to harvest, as even breeding commons will have a time investment requirement.
