It's basic compound interest.
Depositing $500 a week for 30 years in an 11% P.A ETF will yield 6.6Mil.

11% P.A is historically conservative for vanguard share ETFs over the last 2 decades.

I'm currently doing this ($750 a week) as I'm living rent free with my mother and I hope to have enough to retire in 15 years.

VTS is already diversified on different shares.
If you mean protecting against the US share market through bonds or foreign markets then go ahead but those returns are too shit for me and life is too short for such levels of risk aversion.

no, what you need is to try and beat inflation, because when you're old you'll need 10 times more money to maintain the lifestyle you have now.

Are you a brainlet or did you accidentally reply to the wrong person? You said “no” and then completely agreed with me. People need to make money when they’re young and use it to situate themselves for when they’re old. It’s not rocket science.

Haven't you learned?
Bitcoin has the brand recognition.
Everybody knows what bitcoin is.
Nobody knows what ether is.
Nobody even knows what a crypto currency is.

ETH has a hell of a lot more scaling challenges than bitcoin. At any point some hammy dapp could brick the network.

BTC has a higher risk profile than most normies are comfortable with. ETH has a much greater risk profile than bitcoin.

I have a complaint. Viewing transactions on the block explorer fucking sucks now.
Segwit is one more usability compromise in the name of fake optimization designed to keep BTC from being a viable solution.
LN will be the nail in the UX.
